CIVIL 3D 2018 Issues?

Anyone have any problems with Civil 3d 2018?

I'm wondering if we should upgrade from 2016 or wait for Autocad to troubleshoot some of the issues.

I have been testing it the last few weeks, seems to be running ok with most of the bugs from 2017 removed.

I've been working on it for a bit, and it mostly seems ok to me.  No crashes, and I haven't had any serious issues.

I do have an occasional issue where it will hang when switching from paper space to model space.  It only seems to happen when I have imagery in the drawing, and turning off the imagery before I switch seems to address the issue.  It doesn't crash, but I have to wait for a minute or two before the program responds again.  But if I remember right, I had the same issue with 2017 until the first service pack came out.

I've heard (anecdotally) that a lot of people like to wait for the first service pack to be out before making the upgrade to a new version.

You really do need to test it in your own environment.  You'll note there isn't a lot of testing parameters provided, test models/drawings attached, and so on.  So while some may say "It works" if they're not testing what you need you won't have any idea; and while some may say "It doesn't work", it may be irrelevant to your situation.

for the true test you need to test 2018 in your own environment using your own files and workflows

try using 2018 the exact same way you are using 2016 and see what if any changes happened in your workflow across the different versions

one thing to note 2018 is not backwards compatible with 2016

I just upgraded to 2018 version and have frustrating problem with line type appearance, specifically with line types with letter in it ( S, W, G ...). By  transition from 2016 to 2017 was not an issue! Anyone knows how to fix it?

Can you provide some screenshots? Try switching hardware acceleration off, it may be that your graphics card is not supported in 2018 products yet

I'm having issues trying to use the connected alignments.  I've followed the youtube videos and made the offset alignments and profiles, but when I try to make the connected alignment and select the location for the connected alignment , I get the error, "The location cannot be on one of the alignments." and its not accepting the location of the connected alignment.  Any ideas on what's causing this or what I'm doing wrong?

 My opinion is to hold off until the first update on this releae.  there is a major bug with AEC objects that was introduced by the AutoCAD Architecture component of C3D that makes it so that some properties do not come through when xrefing a file.  Autodesk has a fix for it, but you have to contact support so they can remote in and replace the required files.  If I rememer right, there were almost 30 files that were replaced on my system when they remoted in to resolve the issue.  There is also a bug with editing polylines that causes you to have to type RE <enter> between each edit you want to perform.

I've had been testing for years (2006-2013) but kind of lost heart the last few releases.

Problem is we get a list of features for testing but not a list of fixes for checking.

We also don't really have enough examples of bugs (dwg files with the bug saved) to test in the new environment so we can open and recreate the problem or hopefully not without a lot of legwork and guesswork.

I generally get a distgruntaled message here about what is wrong.. more input and examples are needed from problematic drawings and detailed cataloged bugs.

I've identified a half dozen or so Product Defects. I'm not happy with the value for my money that the Civil 3D team is delivering due to the numerous product defects.

Civil 3D needs better management of quality control procedures... Been saying this for years now..

My issue ended up being a corrupt drawing.  Once I started with a fresh new drawing everything worked fine.

Anyone having any performance issues.  It seems to run awfully slow compared to 2017.  When saving it takes a very long time.  Any idea when the service pack will be released?

One issue that I've noticed with 2018 is when you change the corridor design in any way, you have to manually 'rebuild' the corridor Datum surface in the Surfaces section in order to get your cut/fill volumes to update to reflect the new design. Even if the corridor surfaces in the Surfaces section is set to automatically rebuild you still have to rebuild them manually. Not sure if any one else is having this issue but it seems the only way I can update my volumes. Let me know if anyone else experiences this. Wasn't happening in 2017.

I've found that Quick Elevation Edit for featurelines suddenly stops working on featurelines that are being used as baselines for corridors. That puts a big damper on productivity for the rest of the project..

We have found that when xref-ing an existing base into our sheet, the existing surface in that file does not print correctly.  It displays on the computer correctly (as hidden lines), but when printing, they appear as a continuous linetype.  Over at AUGI, I read a thread where a user was having the same problem.  Apparently it is a known bug.  In the meantime we're having to explode the surface and labels in our base file.

I've been working with the new offset profile feature and believe it works great.  But there's one more thing I have to figure out... In our area we have to provide left and right top of curb profiles, but C3D is makes a separate profile for each offset alignment.  Does anyone know how I have both the left and right top of profiles in the same profile view and be able to label them.  I know you can superimpose them, but I can't figure out or now if its possible to label superimposed profiles.

You can't..

I just recently argued to Autodesk that the "Stacked Profiles" option should do this for us now in 2018.  They told me to pound sand and put up on the "Idea" board.

Yea I saw that but I'd like to have both profiles in the same view instead of stacked view.
