Civil 3D 2018 Cross section sheets not using specified layout for sheet creation

Hello all,

This is my first post on these forums, by way of introduction I am an Engineering & Mining Surveyor with some 30 years experience, and have been using AutoDesk products since 1988, Civil 3D since 2008.

I have a dwg in which I have created 20 sheets worth of XS (Cross Sections). When I go to create Section Sheets, it does not use the layout I specified from my reference template. Instead it seems to use a layout from another drawing which happens to be in the same folder as the Current Drawing. This is the heart of the problem. The problem is that with the layout it does use, it has a view-port scale of 1:8000, the sheet number fields in the title block don't work. So it is tedious to fix that manually for all 20 sheets, the process should be automatic and take minutes to complete.

Is there a reason why the reference template is not used? It's view-port is unlocked, set to section mode, priority -1.

I have several other drawings to do as well, Just wondering if someone could kindly point me in the right direction in terms of organizing dwg's , sheet sets and reference templates. The scenario is there are 3 alignments (200m, 300m, 400m long respectively) and 2 surfaces: Finished Level and Sub-grade Level.  The XS are every 20 metres. Ideally I would like the Title Block to reflect the Name of the Alignment, and the sheet numbers shown as SHEET 1 of 20 the bold parts being the fields. I would rather not duplicate the base dwg if possible. It is possible to do some field magic in the reference template, so I could have only one of them, rather than 1 for each Alignment? I guess one would use some custom data values for that. I might be ok with that, if only I could get it to use the correct layout in the first place  :+)

So that we're sure what you're telling us, what specific commands are you using? 

Are you using Plan Production Tools to create the section sheets? Or using only Sheet Set Manager?

If you can't post data, can you post screenshots?

I am using version 12.0.842.0  The product was reinstalled recently (not by me) I am not sure if updates  have been installed. I also have limited bandwidth out here on site. I will look at that though.

Sorry fro the really late reply, I have been flat out on a large Rail Job.

For the 2 files attached, the cross sections basically look the way I would like. So what isn't working is getting C3D to use the correct sheet template with the correct sheet numbers.

In my next reply with 2 different files, I tried to do the same thing, but this time C3D does not seem to copy the correct details from the reference template band details, so the X-Sections do not look right at all.

I suspect that I am missing something crucial in the procedure. Maybe it has something to do with the way I delete Objects when things aren't quite right? I find it easier to delete and re run, rather than try to edit the object.

Hello all,

With these two files attached, I tried to do the same thing as with the other drawings, but the band styles details don't seem come though from the reference template, so the X-sections didn't look right at all. In my latest attempt there seems to be no data at all from the X-Sections. There is nothing on the Cross Section Display page.

I guess I have a procedural / conceptual problem here, If anyone could help that would be great - I have until the end of the week to get these drawings to issue.

Some further and possibly unrelated info:

Today C3D seems to crash about every 10 minutes, even with a simple dwg, just some points joined by 3d polylines. Doing a drawing Audit seems to show the same issues each time, I do ask for them to be fixed each time.
