Civil 3D 2017 Files Seemingly Incompatibility with Previous Versions

We saved several files using Civil 3D 2017. When attempting to open and save those files using Civil 3D 2016 in a separate computer, the below message is generated. It seems Civil 3D 2017 files are not compatible with 2016 or any version previous. No objects were created in the the 2017 file, only the text was modified. What is going on here? Please advise. Thank you.

Civil 3d 2017 has a new Object format and is not backwards compatible with any previous version, the dwg format is still 2013.

How do users with 2016 or later open, edit and save if they need to use a file saved in 2017? Does this apply to just Civil 3D or AutoCAD 2016 as well? Thank you.

Vanilla AutoCAD 2017 opened in Vanilla AutoCAD 2016 = no issues AFIK.

Civil 3d 2017 opened in Civil 3d 2016 = your going to want to avoid at all costs IMO.

In order to replicate your currently functional 2017 Civil 3d dwg files for use in 2016 is a lot of work using LandXml export & Import etc.
