Civil 3d 2016

I am using Civil 3D 2016 on a laptop which has 4GB ram, Windows 10 installed, with 64 bit operating system. Whenever I add large number of data points in  Civil 3d, it has been observed that Civl 3d program halt/ stop / hang.

Kindly suggest what remedial measures I need to take to run smoothly Civil 3d software with large data points.

Regards

First, welcome to the forums!

Second, 4gb RAM is barely enough for Windows10 to function without C3D2016. I would consider 12GB to be a minimum, with more being better.

Third, what is the actual number of points in the data set?

I'd agree with Jeff that your RAM is the main issue although would also add that I run Win10/Civil 3D 2016 on my laptop with 8Gb (as this is the maximum the laptop can handle) and it is fine in the main although I tend to favour using my desktop PC which has 32Gb and dual screens...!!!!

I'd also query what you are using the points for - if you are just building a surface then simply add the point file to the surface definition rather than importing the points and then adding them

That's pretty heavy duty for 4 gb RAM. I have 32 gb on my desktop and would still think about cutting that up in to smaller sections.
