Cannot write to the data shortcut folder because it is read-only

One of my users is getting the error. "Cannot write to the data shortcut folder because it is read-only". Our environment contains Panzura controllers in our global file system. This data shortcut is attempting to be created on the network share. The user can manually create folders and files properly in the network folder. Any help would be appreciated!

@ian.pague - My company utilizes Nasuni and we had the same type of issues at the very beginning. We are running 2015 and 2017. We found that 2017 creates a "ShortcutsFolders.xml" outside of the _SHORTCUTS folder and because our internal permission were set to not modify that folder, shortcuts were not being created even though the _SHORTCUTS folder has open permissions. If you could provide a snapshot of your folder structure that may be helpful, but maybe take a look at your permissions at the folder level to see if it is preventing the .xml from being created.

Thanks for your quick response. I attached a photo of the security for the folder. The user is in the group with Modify permissions. The folder does have the read-only check box checked, but the user is able to create a folder within that folder manually.

Thanks for the screenshot. It makes sense from the user experience but it is Civil 3D that needs permissions to write to that folder, not the individual user. At the very least, this was our issue. What are the permissions of your "OLS.." folder? I've attached a screenshot of our permissions. We have our _SHORTCUTS set to 'Full Control" but the "DESIGN" folder has Read only permissions. Have you tried contacting Panzura regarding the file locking? We had issues with our Revit files locking us out with Nasuni so we switched to BIM 360 Design for Revit.

Thank you very much! What is the account that needs permissions to the _Shortcuts folder? I only see your folder structure in the attachment. Once again, thank you for the information! I hope I can get this resolved from your guidance!

Ah yes, I forgot to mention that we (IT Department) place the "ShortcutsFolders.xml" file into our "DESIGN" folder automatically since our permissions to that folder are locked. As soon as C3D sees that file, it creates the shortcuts in the _SHORTCUTS folder. So rather than the program writing to that folder, we place it there before data shortcuts are created. We have an "All locations" account that gives full permissions to the _SHORTCUTS folder. It's our "DESIGN" folder that "All locations" only has read access. We don't want random folders being created under sub-directories which is why we lock down those permissions.

In your structure, how was the "ShortcutsFolders.xml" created? Did you manually create that or did Civil 3D?

You may want to consider adjusting the permissions on your "OLE" folder to "Write" for testing purposes to see if you still get the same error in Civil 3D.
