C3D 2020 - Data Shortcuts Source BUG Found

In Civil 3D 2020 (2020.5.1) when creating a data shortcut to a surface, Civil 3D will path the reference (source file name) to the last saved version of the drawing.  If this last save was an autosave - the source file name will be the autosave file in your autosave directory; NOT the file you're currently working in.

To test,

  1. We opened Civil 3D 2020.
  2. Set the working folder
  3. Saved.
  4. set Autosave to 1 minute.
  5. waited for an autosave.
  6. created a reference to a surface in our drawing.
  7. checked references, and under source file name - the reference came from the Autosave file that had just been created, not the current file we are in (that the autosave just happened in).
  8. removed the reference.
  9. turned off autosave.
  10. saved the drawing
  11. created the reference
  12. source file name is correct.

In short, if you use autosave and until this is fixed, I recommend Saving your file immediately before you create data references to avoid the problem.

Hi @agentornge75 ,

I am escalating this for further testing.

Has any solution been found for this bug?

Happening here at our office quite frequently, very annoying and disturbing.

Many chances for incorrect data. We have set our autosave folder to the local C drive to not clutter the server with all those files.
