.bak files

where do you find the .bak files using windows 10. I used to find it under   local disk C: users: et1:appdata:local:temp  But there is no appdata file in windows 10

In Civil 3D, Open the Options dialog.  On the Files tab, locate Automatic Save, and click the plus sign next to it to show the path for the Autosave bak files.

Are you looking for .bak or .sv$ files?  If your Autosave is turned on then the .sv$ file would be the current backup.  Any previous versions of that file will be renamed to .bak

There should also be a .bak file in the original drawing location.  That one would be from whenever you opened the drawing, or the last time you manually saved it.

Yes, there is, but it is a hidden folder. Turn on display of hidden files and folders:

View tab of File Explorer, you will see an option for Hidden items. Checkmark the box.

That said, .bak and Autosave files are two different things. The Autosave, *.ac$, files are typically saved in temp, but they are deleted automatically if you close the drawing without crashing. The .bak, as Steve said, is saved in the same folder as the drawing file. This is the second-most-recent version of your drawing file.

In my previous post to this thread, I said, "The Autosave, *.ac$, files are typically saved in temp," That should be *.sv$, not ac$.
