Background mask hiding label text

In one particular dwg file, background masks in line label text wipeout the actual text. It happens on multiple computers. We have tried auditing, creating new line label styles, exporting to an older version dwg. Nothing works. We don't have this problem in new DWGs. Any idea what might be happening? We are running C3D 2022 on Windows 10.

I'm not seeing any issues. Do you have all updates installed?

There are no Civil 3d Labels in the attached file.

Are they in an XREF?

In the future, a screenshot of the problem area will be a good idea, even when you attach the file.

I'd like to help but I'm not getting the issue on 2021.2.1

Suggestion unrelated to your issue: Set the anchor point for the Bearing & Distance text component to "Label Location" rather than Middle. That way you can slide the label along the line if needed without it flipping to a dragged state.
