AutoCAD Civil 3D Migration to 2019

I am trying to migrate to Civil 3D 2019.  I am not able to find the migration tool that previously was located under the start menu and programs AutoCAD 20XX.  There is no AutoCAD 2019 folder listed for me to find the migration tool.

Anyone else having this issue?  I am using Windows 10.  Is there a way to download separately?

My installation has an "AutoCad 2018-English" with 8 items listed under it including:

MIGRATE FROM A PREVIOUS RELEASE.

Never used by me however.

Do you have a AutoCAD 2019 folder?  I have the 2018, but that will migrate to 2018 not 19...

Thanks!

In your Windows 10 search box, type Migrate from a Previous Release. If the tool is there, that should find it for you.

The thing is, I think that is an AutoCAD-specific tool, not meant to work with Civil 3D.

What are you trying to move up from the old version? You can use CUI to transfer workspaces and custom commands very easily.

There is a migration tool, but it wants to Migrate to 2018 not to 2019....  The tool does not have the option for migrating to 2019.  And there is not the Autocad 2019 folder installed like previous versions.  Same situation on my laptop, so it seems to be an Autodesk issue and not a specific PC issue...

I used the tool last time I migrated and it was slick.  It moved my templates and support files that have all the different line types and fonts.  Was really slick and worked for C3D.    I tried to migrate my cui file.  But I totally jacked it up now.  Yikes!  I've never done the CUI move correctly.  So now I have busted 2019.

Solution!

The Autocad 2019 folder is under Program files.  It does not come up under the start menu for some reason.

Here is the path.

C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2019

Look for AdMigrator.exe

The Map 3D 2019 readme that comes with Civil 3D 2019 tells you not to migrate from a previous version. You will probably have to reinstall if things go wrong.  Best practice is to keep a separate CUI file for your customizations. Run a separate profile for your customized environment so you can fall back to the OOTB Civil 3D configuration if needed.  That AdMigrator.exe is the same exe that you run when you use the Reset Settings to Default under Start > Autodesk > Autodesk Civil 3D 2019 program group.   Oh, you can't find that shortcut?  It was there in previous versions.  I have found some installations don't have this shortcut.  Recreate it by creating a new shortcut on your desktop named Reset Settings to Default and put this in the Target field.

"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2019\AdMigrator.exe" /reset /product C3D /language "en-US"

I kept finding so many hazards to avoid when installing and updating that I compiled a list of do's and don'ts (rants) called Autodesk Software Updates.
