Assigning Points to Point Groups - Its not working correctly

Hi

I cannot find a way to assign points to seperate point groups without all of the points moving to the same point group.

Every time I select points 1,2,3 and move each one to point groups A, B and C it moves all of them to each one.

I found that this had been posted before but does anyone know if this has been fixed yet?

Add Points to Point Group - Autodesk Community - Civil 3D

What I am trying to do is assign different points to different point groups so I can assign different colours to indicate different parts for setting out i,e all the channels in one colour, all the top back of kerbs in a different colour.

At present the only work around I can see is to export the whole lot to AutoCAD and manually edit them all there into different layers which will take quite a while seeing as I will probably have around 10,000 points to do.

The only way I have found to sort this out is to use the selection box in Include within the point group property menu and then keep using update. Its not very slick is it would prefer an append via a right click button or simiar

If you're interested in a 3rd party app. Sincpac will do that and much more.

@MatthewB80097 I agree with @AllenJessup regarding the Sincpac, it makes this chore quite simple. However, since points can belong to multiple pointgroups, just use the Exclude tab to insert the point numbers to exclude from certain groups. The Sincpac can do that automatically for you, as well as auto-update the groups.

I've never had that kind of issue with point groups. Wouldn't it be easier to use description to sort the points to groups?

Based on what you have written in your post, you want to move Point 1 to Group A, Point 2 to Group B and Point 3 to Group C. Is that correct?

If the result is Points 1, 2 and 3 all move to Group A and all Points 1, 2 and 3 also move to Group B and finally all Points 1, 2 and 3 move to Group C too, then it's the way you're creating your Groups.

What is criteria used to differentiate one Group from another?

Can you upload screenshots for a group, e.g. Group B. From Point group properties, include screenshots of the Tabs named:

  1. Raw Desc Matching
  2. Include
  3. Exclude
  4. Point List

As @ChicagoLooper suggests I believe may assign points to point groups based on the description.

I wish you are not grouping them by just looking at it. There will be some factor inside the drawing that defines the groups.

My groups are

Top of Kerb

Channel - Carriageway

Channel - Misc

If I move any of my points to either one of those three it moves them all to all of them, unless I use the selection in the Include menu. Luckily it holds the selection within the menu.

When I started I was creating point groups from the corridor but eventually I just deleted those so everything was held in all points and then created three new point groups for simplicity.

Ideally it would be great if there was a right click menu and then a sub menu for adding to the appropriate point group but alas there isn't so I have to go through the long winded method and then hit regen so it visible on screen.
