Adding data from GIS to pipeline profile data bands

When designing a pipeline there are many factors to consider other than it's size, depth, location and crossing services. In Australia we normally show this information on the profile plan, which we call a long section.

In addition to the normal profile plan information above, we would typically show on a profile plan set the following:

1. Property details such as the address or whether it's a road or creek. This normally comes from a GIS source.

2. Type of bedding in the trench for example sand, cement stabilized sand or concrete encased.

3. Restoration detail, such as grassed, driveway, road, footpath, etc

4. Environmental information, such as our soils, acid sulfate or contaminated soils, sensitive areas, etc.

Is it possible to include these type of details on a profile data bands? Ideally we could use a type of polygon or gis layer to automatically update the profiles dynamically in the drawings as required.

Basically I would like to show in the data bands of the profile data from any GIS layer.

You can attach it to the object using property data sets (Civil3D 2018 & 2018).  The data can then be accessed in plan labels, not sure about in bad labels would need to check but I’m not near my PC till Monday

Property Sets is already available in 2014. May be in 2013.

A possible alternative is to use Object Data (OD).
To describe OD: ADEDEFDATA
Connect-disconnect OD: ADEATTACHDATA
You can see, enter, and edit the values in the fields in the regular Properties window.
OD are used in export / import, queries, etc.

Is there export/import, queries, etc. for the Property Sets do not know.

Actually longer than that, it comes from Autodesk Architecture.  It wasn’t until 2016 produvity pack 1 did they expose it more fully to make it easier to use, but wasn’t until 2017 did they make it easier to reuse that data in labels.

As far as I understand you cannot use property data in profile views. I was trying to implement that some time ago and I quit without success. You can use it in plan for the labels for a while. New Civil is coming and maybe...

You can put property data set info into point projection labels in profiles and you can make the point projection label look like a band label. You have to set up the component in a point label and then copy/paste to the projection label. The data won't format correctly in C3D table style but appears correctly in the label styles.  I haven't tried putting the property data into a band label.

edit. I just realized it maybe possible to apply the data set to a 'point projection' or 'point projection label' and avoid the copy/paste of the component contents.

Thanks for your input. The post below uses a method of setting up dummy pipe networks to advice what I am trying to do.

The dummy pipe networks utilise No Plot styles, null structures and pipes, and uses the pipe description to and a specific label. The pipe network is then added to the profile.
