Adding a Curve to an existing Alignment

Need to ad a curve to an existing Alignment near the middle of the alignment, is there a way to do this without have to redo the alignment?

Right click your alignment.

Select -->  Edit Alignment Geometry.

Not really need to ad the curve to the existing alignment replacing a couple of straight sections in the alignment.

Okay...there are a couple different ways to do it...

If you know the radius of the curve you want to insert...

Click on the alignment, then right-click and choose "edit alignment geometry.

An editing box will come up...sixth from the left you'll see a curve symbol. Down-arrow that, and go down to "between two entities, radius" Pick that.

It will ask you to pick the first line, then the second, then type in the radius.

Says one or more entities has an attachment.

Oh right...sorry...

That's because the two tangents are touching.

So, two left of the curve command is "break apart PI"...click that, then click near the pi you want to put the curve at. Give it a distance...doesn't matter, 10' will do. That will put a gap in between the two lines. Now do the curve command.

Like me! (5 years later...) I just had this same problem that I was researching.

This seemed like a solution but now the alignment  after where it has been broken becomes unusable and does not update in any profiles.  sample lines were removed and no longer work past the point of breaking either .

There's another way...

Undo your break...now you have two tangents touching

click on the alignment, right click and "Edit alignment geometry...

when the editing strip comes up, hit the third down arrow from the left...that's to add curves...

Third from the bottom is "Free curve fillet (between two entities, radius)

Pick your first tangent - it has to be the one closest to the beginning of the alignment..

Pick the second tangent...

It asks you for a curve solution, chose less than 180...

type in the radius and hit enter...you should have your curve, with everything connected...

When selecting the second tangent, I get an error saying one or more entities has an attachment

To add a curve to an existing alignment:

1. Right Click the Alignment

2. Select "Alignment Creation Tools"

3. Select "Fixed Curve - Three Points" from the Curve Drop down menu on the Alignment Layout Toolbar (6th Icon from the left)

4a. Click the first end point of the curve you want to create

4b. Click the MID point of the curve you'd like to create

4c. Click the final end point of the curve you want to create

5. Select "Delete Sub-entity" Tool on the Alignment Layout Toolbar (6th icon from the right)

6. Delete the part of the alignment you no longer need.

7. Hit Enter/ Spacebar to complete

I resolved this by adding a new PI before and after the new curve location. Then using the Free Curve Fillet (between two entities, radius) option, I was able to get my desired radius populated into the alignment. Then I deleted the two new PI's that I added before placing the radius since they are not actually needed anymore.

is is jsut me or is it stupid that there isnt an option for "Free Curve at PI"? if you already have two tangents touching and they form a PI (which is quite frequently.. ) then rather than selecting both tangents you should jsut be able to chose "At PI". 

Its even more annoying that is does this when you convert a polyline to a Alignment...

Just wanted to add that if you're getting the Says one or more entities has an attachment message try changing the order in which you are picking the lines. for some reason this worked for me when no other method would.
