2020 Pipes disconnect from structures

I have seen this issue in older versions but perhaps my problem is specific enough to start a new thread.

 

We are using a combination of 2018, 19, & 20.  This is due to all the issues with the IPE and creating custom sizes, as well as being hopeful that the connection points in structures worked for added sizes, which they dont unless youre an inventor wizard.

 

Now to the problem, we snap all of our pipes to the inside walls of the structures.  This is to show true lengths & slopes as they will be built. 

 

In 2018 we could snap our pipes to the inside wall (drawn with polylines) and it would stay connected as long as the connection symbol is shown, along with the intersection or midpoint snap symbol.

 

In 2019 we could snap our pipes to the inside wall (drawn with polylines) and it would stay connected.  In this version we did not need the connection symbol, it just stayed connected on its own.

 

2020 has decided it wants to disconnect the pipe. 

 

Our only solution to this is to keep 2 versions of civil 3d on our machines.

 

2019: pipe network drawing + production dwg with data shortcut of said network in it OPEN, SAVE dwg = CRASH

2020: pipes disconnect from structures.

 

This is a MAJOR problem for our engineers that love Civil 3D and are excited about the storm drain analysis functionality as well as our techs.  We need a solution to these issues.  I have asked many in the industry and the only thing I have heard is, Autodesk is aware of the issue and is working diligently to arrive at a solution.

 

Anyone experience anything similar and/or have work arounds for us?

Can you please share a drawing file for the testing purpose? 

Does this happen with customized pipes or Default pipes?

Absolutely, ty for the reply.  Ill do one better and post a video of each instance and send the dwg.  Give me about 15 mins or so.  Thanks!

Win 7-64 (sp1) 32gb Ram

 

All of these tests were done using the 2018 part catalog "US Imperial..." & a 2018 parts list.  They are not custom pipes in this instance, however the structures they are connected to, have been slightly changed for wall thickness, and sizes.  I am also using blocks attached to the plan view display, in order to plot the inside wall, grate, lid, etc.

 

As you can see in the attached videos:

 

2018 requires a snap icon & the connection icon simultaneously in order to stay connected and snap to the inside wall.   https://autode.sk/2ZsBBWV

 

2019 ONLY requires the snap icon, if the connection icon is displayed it will automatically snap to the center of the structure.  https://autode.sk/2FhwtgJ

(2019 has a known bug that crashes the program upon saving when having the pipe network dwg open as well as a dwg it is data shortcutted into)

 

2020 intermittently disconnects the pipe when snapping to the inside wall.

It is worth mentioning I have tried using the 2019 catalog & the 2020 catalog with all sorts of different variations.  Unfortunately the catalog 'with connections' does not contain the sizes we typically use, and to be honest, it is difficult to publish parts to C3D efficiently when altered in the IPE.

 

I appreciate you time & effort on this.  We are currently putting together a new drainage design template.  I personally got very excited when I heard of the catalog with connections, and it caused a big mess as all of the cad technicians installed 2019 prematurely.  Now I am having to go back to 2018, create my parts list, and use it in both 2019 & 2020 depending on the workflow.

 

One last thing, our short term solution was to simply open the pipe network dwg in 2019, snap all the pipes to the inside wall, run the analysis and save.  When we open this dwg in 2020 it disconnected the pipes, intermittently as well.

We just upgraded from 2018 to 2020. We also snap pipes to the wall locations with elevations as well as snap to our survey data collected in the field. This is disappointing. Any progress yet Autodesk?

 

I see they did the same thing with feature lines also with this release. 3d polyline creation from point cloud data takes much longer now.
