2018 BowTie Cleanup not working for SAs created in SAC

Good evening-

 

Has anyone been able to apply the C3D 2018.2 BowTie Cleanup successfully on a subassembly created in Subassembly Composer?

 

I have not been successful with either Delta X on Surface or Slope to Surface geometry.  The OOTB SAs .net subassemblies of course work fine. 

 

Below is an image of a simple ditch SA built in SAC (rotated in 3D).  Notice the bowtie cleanup daylight point elevation gets pushed down to zero elevation.

No wonder I couldn't ever get it to work properly! I only use custom subassemblies for our designs.

I'm having exactly the same problem, glad to see I'm not the only one!!

 

I made a forum post about this a few days ago, but I haven't got any answer yet.

Since I work in the UK all the subassemblies that we use are custom so this is bit annoying.

 

Like you the OOTB sub assemblies work every time no matter the geometry. Really hoping a fix can be made for this soon.

Hi Mike,

 

I got curious with your post and tested them as well. I can confirm that some custom SAC will not work in clear corridor bowtie for Civil 3D 2018.2 but some custom SAC will work.

 

ootb - subassembly

1) linkwidthslope - bowtie fix working

2) linkslopetosurface - bowtie fix working

 

custom SAC - subassembly

1) link dx ds - bowtie fix working

2) link ds surface - bowtie fix NOT working

3) link dx surface - bowtie fix NOT working

4) link dx elev - bowtie fix working

5) link dx dy - bowtie fix working

 

Legend:

dx - change in X

dy - change in Y

ds - change in Slope

 

My initial findings, only custom SAC with target surface will not work in clear corridor bowtie.

 

I reported this as Defect:1379

Thanks for doing the tests and submitting the support ticket. I really hope they can roll out a patch soon too...I tend to use target surfaces every now and then 🙂

Hi

 

This may help I hope

 

I use SAC for retaining wall lock block walls and Railway type stuff custom assembly's

and it seems there are far less errors in event viewer 

if i start with a very basic OTB sub assembly to get things rolling.

 

Note i renamed linkVertical to just right or left not the best rename i admit

there are two "starter" OTB vertical links on top of each other

not so apparent in Image.

Hi Mike,

I have also faced the same situation when clearing bowties in areas where I have link to surface.

So I modified my subassembly to include small horizontal link at end of link to surface as shown in the below screenshot.linkToSurface.PNG

 

and then used clear bowties using this endpoint. bowtiesPlan.PNG

 

 

 

yes, that point moved to zero elevation, but it's only a dummy point so I don't need it for extracting corridor solid.slopeSoilds-1.PNG

Hello,

 

An update to this issue in both 2018 and 2019 was solved by @Jowennl.  Please see his summary below.  I have tested this in C3D19.2 and it works great.  Thanks @Jowennl !  

 
 
There is some hidden rule that none of the public know. I don't have time to create screencast or video to prove this but I already tested and found the real issue behind the surface target problem.
 
For 2019.1 onwards - This is not an issue anymore (Surface is not hard coded to look for name "TargetDTM") ~ I talked to Dev. team and ask them to fixed this.
For 2019 and below - This is the only solution (Surface is hard coded and will only work if your surface target in SAC is renamed to "TargetDTM"
 

Solution:

  1. Use stock assembly or change your target surface name.
  2. Define the target surface of a SA as “TargetDTM” - This is because Bowtie fix is hardcoded. (So funny they did it this way)
