Horizontal marker lines..
building an extra surface will work, although the extents of the horizontal line in the cross section ought to be more flexible, e.g. stretch it in the section view as required instead of going back to the plan and modifying the surface. it's a marker line, primarily for permitting, a graphical requirement that the agencies want, not a model element. (heck, the far side of the Mean High Tide Line is somewhere on the coast of Spain!)
Vertical marker lines.
That is an excessively complex series of steps, convoluted, cumbersome, and kludgy for something that _ought_ _to_ _be_ straightforward and basic!! Maybe this belongs in the wish-list, but arbitrary vertical markers based on horizontal locations in the plan are always required in my cross sections. And, since they are marker lines, the ability to stretch vertically w/o changing the horizontal location in the section view is important. I can see creating an alignment for the easement, phase lines, wetlands, jurisdictional boundaries, etc. but seriously -- kludging a workaround with assemblies, profiles, etc is not worth the effort. C3D does some useful stuff, but jumping though counter-intuitive hoops to do something as basic as a vertical is why it's sitting on the back burner.
LDT let users attach the Left & Right ROW alignment and displayed them as vertical marker lines, I'm essentially asking for that back, plus the ability to add an arbitrary number of additional vertical marker lines.
