Change grip

I am constantly needing to hover over a grip after I have highlighted a pipe to figure out if its the beginning or the end of a pipe. Is there any way to have the start grip look different than the end grip? OR.... have the start and end grips show the text box only when highlighted? .... w

This is not exactly answering your question, but the easiest way to determine the start and end of a pipe is to look at the grip arrow at the center of the pipe, it is always on the left side of the pipe (using the start point looking toward the end point as your frame of reference). Using your image as an example, I know pipe start is on the left and pipe end is on the right because the arrow points up. Of course, you have to be able to see the middle grip for this to be useful.
