parcel display hatching for different parcel sizes

I am preparing a subdivision plan with over 400 parcels.

I would like to classify each lot into area types (ie 300-500m2,500-1000m2 etc), so that i can display each lot automatically with hatch appropriate to the classification.

I can in the toolspace settings define a user-defined property classification for each lot size type, but am at a loss as to where this classification is used.

Is there a process that I can achieve my aims ?

The lack of response from experts today leads me to believe there may not be a great way to go about it.  While I don't claim to be an expert this procedure seems reasonable.

One thing you could do with stock product would be to create a parcel style for each range (small, medium, large, etc).  Then in the Prospector select the Parcels item and sort the list below by area.  Select the rows that you want to assign to a given style, then (tricky part) shift+pick the style column to change them.  Or you can right click and choose select (to select them in the editor) then use the PROPS dialog to assign the new style.

Of course with the proper code, one could setup (and save) ranges and make the assignments in a single operation.

I am pleased someone is interested.

I am fine with your solution up to the last bit.

Is there a way to assign the different parcel styles to multiple lots in one
go? When I highlight multiple lots in the parcel table, I cannot use PROPS
for more than one parcel at a time.



This solution is a bit cumbersome as I was hoping for a bit more of an
automatic method as I am in the planning stages and the parcel shapes and
sizes may change, which will then change their classification.



I am trying to find the use for 'user-defined property classifications'. I
am able to make a classification for each parcel size range, which seems
like the right way to go, and can then see these referenced in the
individual parcel properties, but cannot use them for anything meaningful.

Have you or any one else any ideas on its practical use?

Ignore PROPS for now and try what I mentioned.  "Select the rows that you want to assign to a given style, then (tricky part) shift+pick the style column to change them."

I was hoping for a bit more of an automatic method ...

The only way I can see it getting better is if we add a Parcel > Style by Area tool to our Gizmo3D product, which would remember your ranges and you could just jump in any time and set them all (including new ones) in about two seconds.  Email me at dotson [at] dotsoft [dot] com if you're interested.

I've always just used right-click on the column header, just tried the shify-pick and could never get that to work.

Try shift+pick in the data rows area.  I see now that you can right click on the column header, then choose Edit.  Right clicking looked so much like column control that I missed the edit option.

Ah, got it! You said it was tricky so I was trying to find the tricky part by clicking the header. I'd say we both learned something. Thanks!
