Optimization of CPU usage

Optimization of CPU usage

Please optimise the Core handling for Computers with multiple processors and cores.

For better CPU balancing the Job affinity to specific cores should be better handled in case of multiple Jobs running on a machine. It can happen that the Jobs are put to the first processor Group resulting in some possible conflicts with the ressources...

So, please optimize the CFDSolver-Setting: Define specific priorities and define the core affinity. In case of automatic Settings, in dependency of the parallel Job amounts, the Solver setting should put the Jobs symmetrically to the cores...

For better understanding:

2 CPU with each 16 cores. 4 multiple Jobs required, 8 cores each:

Job 1: put to core Group 0 / CPU 0...7

Job 2: put to core Group 0 / CPU 8...15

Job 3: put to core Group 1 / CPU 0...7

Job 4: put to core Group 1 / CPU 8...15

The control CFDSolver.exe for each Job to be put to the Groups...

Changing CPU request to 16 cores, then avoiding conflicts..

Job 1: put to core Group 0 / CPU 0...15

Job 2: put to core Group 1 / CPU 0...15

I suppose priority changes will not be requred then...

I saw many times now, that some Jobs ran faster than others (stuck in the cpu)... after checking affinity, I found out that the Jobs were put to the same cpu-pool...

Additional comment: With this, you can also optimize the multi-threadening...

Example again: 32 physical cores and 32 virtual cores, all cores shown in the task Manager in the affinity Setting. Putting now specific Jobs to specific cores is possible...

Additional Option trying to make a batch (don't know if the systanx is correct):

Something like:

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C start /affinity 1 CFDSolver.exe

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C start /affinity 2 CFDSolver.exe

...
