I'm not sure if this has been asked or not. Please add the ability to use GPU technology for simulations. The speed gains for solving simulations is incredible. We use it on another product and it is night and day difference.
The Navier-Stokes-Equation is not the best fit for a GPU-Solution.
Due to the need for a lot of communication the Lattice Boltzmann Equation is way better on GPU's.
But for this to happen you would have to write a whole new solver which at this point of development might not be the best solution or a solution at all.
You might get a small speedup using GPU's bit I don't think it's worth the time and effort.
So I think it is better to use this time to further improve the CFD2 solver for multiple CPU's.
The reason I brought it up is I use both Autodesk and Ansys products. Fluent uses the GPU to speed up the pressure coupling solver, the radiation modeling, and a few other items. I have seen a huge difference in the CFD speed. They are solving the Navier-Stokes equation as well. I do not recall if they are using finite volume method or finite element method. I would have to go back and check. I did a quick search to see if there are published numbers.
If it doesn't make business sense for Autodesk I understand, but it does make a difference. I love Autodesk CFD it is SO easy to use and I can have a model setup very quickly. I have to use Fluent because Autodesk_CFD does not have all the features I need. One of the items I did notice was the meshing speed and solving speed between the two programs.
I am familiar with the Lattice Boltzmann method, but the people I know using it are on the cutting edge of research and are experimenting with it, writing their own code. Seems like it has promise, but they themselves were not sure if it is the next step or not.
