Problem with rotating region

Hi all!

I am running a simulation with Rotating Region and Free Surface. The solver was working fine and gave intermediate results that looked ok.

But last weekend the computer were it was running shut down unexpectabley. When I opened CFD 2019 and looked at the last saved results, all the variables within the rotating region were in the wrong position. They were rotated respect to the corrected position (see the attached figure).

Also when I try to restart the solver from the last saved results, the solver exit unexpectably. I guess this is due to the problem with the results.

I would like to know why this happened and how can I recover the correct results.

Hello Rodolfo,

There is not much that can be done to recover from your computer crashing.  You can try starting from a previously saved time step if you chose a certain save interval for the analysis.

Which version of CFD 2019 are you using? (2019.0, 2019.01, 2019.1, or 2019.2)

Earlier version of CFD 2019 had issue displaying the correct position when running motion or rotating region analyses.

It already happened to me and your range of action are limited based from my experience. 

First, when my computer shutdown during a simulation involving a rotating region i was not able to restart the simulation from the last saved iteration. You probably have the same error as you just have. 

However you can retrieve your results  easily 

Here you have a great article that explain how to retrieve lost data after a divergence, really useful

Actually the simulation didn't crash or diverged, simply the pc where it was running re-started.

I can load the last (and all intermediate) results but they all look wrong (the rotating region is in the wrong angular position).

I am using CFD 2019.00, I have tried to update but didn't work ....

So I think will have to update to the latest version and re-start the simulation... that is so sad...

I would definitely un-install CFD and update to CFD 2019.2

Can you elaborate on that?  At which point did it not work?

I recommend doing a full download "Browser Download" and installing from that.

Apparently that was the problem with my attempt to update. Now I uninstalled CFD 2019 and install 2019.2 and worked!

Hello again!

After updating to CFD 2019.2 and starting a new simulation, and apparently working well, the restarted due to windows updating....

Today I opened CFD and the same problem as before happened (the results inside the rotating region is rotated in the wrong position respect to the rest of the domain).

I do not understand why this is happening always!

Is there any way to solve the problem (rotate the fields inside the rotating region to the correct position)?

Hello Rodolfo,

I just tried the Centrifugal Pump tutorial with CFD 2019.2 and it is acting the way it should.

I suggest you try that as well to see if it's your model or your installation.

I ran Centrifugal Pump tutorial last year with CFD 2019.0 and also worked ok.

The problem appears to be when the computer shuts down or re-starts when CFD is running (I think that if the computer didn't shut down I wouldn't be having this problem). I thought that after re-starting and loading the previously saved results it should be ok, but it doesn't.

Are you saying that your computer is rebooting while the analysis is still running and that is what is causing the issue?

How often does this happen?

have you tried un-installing then re-installing CFD?

It doesn't happend so often. In fact yesterday it happened because of the updating of the OS, I don't remeber exactly the other times why the computer shut down.

Actually I have recently un-installed CFD 2019.0 and installed CFD 2019.2.
