Material Database References

I'm currently working on running a CFD Analysis on a parking garage, and I was adding materials to the model, when it dawned on me that for my report, I have no reference source for the materials. Is there a source where Autodesk obtained the material properties for what's in the database? I already looked into this post:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/cfd-forum/reference-for-properties-in-material-library/m-p/4699417#M3...

However, I don't believe, "lost with time" will go over that smoothly. Is there a log of where some of the more common materials have been lifted from? Specifically Concrete and Aluminum? Thank-you.

Hi,

My suggestion (and preference if I was you) would be to verify the materials you are using match to those in the database.

It is not always possible to be 100% specific with a material database as there are so many variants. Honestly I am not sure where ours came from in the first place, they have been fine in my now 11 years of using the software but I would always verify them with each customers' data set when running any project.

Does that help?

Thanks,

Jon

Thank-you for the quick response, but that does not help much. The software utilizes default values, but they have to have been originated from something. Is the default information derived from a standard or code? I don't need the exact source, but I just need to know if the information was originally generated from something like ASHRAE and if so, what that standard is. Thank-you so much, I really appreciate the help.

Hi,

I spoke to the team and it does not seem that there was ever a single source of truth or standard. Other than pointing you to sites like Matweb, I am not too sure that we can fully answer your query.
