CFD simulation for building structures

Hello,

I am a MSc structural engineering student and i am researching wind loading on tall buildings.

I have decided to use CFD simulation and compare the data to a wind tunnel test and the eurocodes guidance.

Therefore, I need to work out how to create an environment akin to a wind tunnel (i.e the neighbouring buildings etc) and was wondering if there are any webinars you could point me too.

I have exported my robot model to CFD but i do not have any of the neighbouring buildings at present. Can additional buildings be created in CFD or do i have to create them elsewhere.

Thanks,

Hi Lee,

It should be super easy.

1) You need a draw an air domain in CAD (the wind tunnel)

2) All geometry must come from CAD, not CFD

3) In CFD assign a P=0 to the outlet and a velocity at the inlet (you can have it varying with height)

That is about it as a starting point. Then we could look to refine the mesh to improve the accuracy of the results. Maybe shout when you reach this stage?

Thanks,

Jon

Hi Lee,

I would also highly recommend following the instructions listed in the article Wind Loading  as a starting point for your project 🙂

I hope this helps
