Cannot write to the scalar result file

I get this error message quite offen.

Simple model of the water in a venturi. 2 pieses of pipe connected with a double reducer.

Material: Water added.

Boundery con: P = 10bar in and 0bar out

Mesh: Auto size

Solver:

Solution mode: steady state

Solver computer: my computer

Continue from :0

Iterations  to run 300

Compresability: incompressible

Enable adaption: check

Cycles to run: 3

Allow coasening: check

Troublesuting solution:

1: file permission and folder privileges. (no issues on c:)

2: Disk space (80GB no issue)

3: Firewall and security settings (no issues)

4 Try closing the user interface after the job starts to see if the solver still has trouble writing the file. ( have no clue what i have to do)

More info does not refere to the error.

Some times i helps if i take the PC out of the docking station.

Why that help i dont know.

Hi,

This is almost certainly some sort of security issue, check out the article here: Cannot open scalar results file.

Thanks,

Jon

Hi

I had the same issues as pthc.

I have already checked for security settings, and still it doesn't work. Can someone help me with this? Can it be a matter of RAM required to run the simulation? I have tried to use a computer with 64 GB instead of the 32 GB I have on my computer, and there it runs perfectly. Any ideas?

Hi,

Have you run through all of the points in the article above?

Thanks,

Jon

Yes I have checked everything.

- As I run a lot of simulations for the past year I know there should not be a problem in terms of file permissions and file privileges.

- I have disk space.

- Firewall and security settings all checked.

- Closing user interface after job starts is the only thing I dont know how to do. Can you provide information on how to do this?

Best,

Nelly

Hi,

One the solver is started (for instance, it is meshing), you just click the cross at the top right of the window, like any windows program 🙂

CFD will continue to run in the background.

Opening up the cfdst again will re-connect the interface to the results!

I hope this works, it is strange that this issue persists if you ran through all those points.

Did you add the firewall exceptions or simply turn it off?

(The latter doesn't work)

Thanks,

Jon

Hi

So, finally I managed to find out what the issue was. Apparantly, there is an issue if simulations are run while in a folder in Onedrive. In order to avoid issues, just put a folder on the desktop with the files and then transfer the folder to Onedrive after simulations have been running. This might be an issue to others, so I hope this will help in the future if people come across this issue again 🙂

Weird, that is a local folder still though right? But synced online?

Thanks for sharing! I will mark this as solved.
