Autodesk CFD 2027 Python API documentation and using VS Code for scripting

Hi everyone,

I am using Autodesk CFD 2027 and would like to automate CFD tasks using Python.

I found the Script Editor under the Setup tab. When I open it, Autodesk CFD creates an untitled Python script.

I have two questions:

  1. Where can I find the complete Python API documentation for Autodesk CFD 2027?
I am looking for documentation of the available modules, classes, methods, properties, and examples.
  2. Can I develop Autodesk CFD Python scripts using an external IDE such as VS Code?
The built-in Script Editor is quite basic, and I would like to use features such as IntelliSense, autocomplete, debugging, and GitHub Copilot.
Is there a recommended way to use VS Code with the Autodesk CFD Python API/runtime?
Can scripts be run directly from VS Code, or do they need to be executed through Autodesk CFD / CFD Script Editor?

I am specifically using Autodesk CFD 2027.

Thank you.

Hello,

I'd also like to know where to find the API documentation. Could you point me to the location where I could download or access it?

Thanks in advance and best regards,

Daniel

You can download the API from the 2015 version. It’s quite old, but some of the APIs still work perfectly fine. Here is the link: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/cfd-forum/cfd-api-documentation/td-p/12039807

Hello,

I've been in your shoes too, trying to automate the running of simulations and the post processing.

I did not find all the infos in the documentation and after some time I got the simplest answer from the support: the API has never been finished, some of the python functions are empty shells and you'll never be able to use them.

Good luck, I guess our best workflow for automation now is to have an external AI agent do the work via the GUI.
