Link revit files that are not cloud based

I would like to link a series of projects together that are loaded onto our team hub as revit files. They are saved into the project folder on BIM 360 and are not cloud models since they are reference files. Is it possible? The only links that appear are those that are cloud revit files. If I load the link from the BIM 360 Connector they use my local drive as the directory and other team members will not see them.

There has to be a way to link files together that are not Cloud Based Revit projects but still reside on BIM 360 HUB

Any insight would be helpful,

Thanks.

Hi @JDBuchalski,

Thank you for posting to the BIM 360 Team Forum.  It looks like you are using the Desktop Connector to integrate reference files from your BIM 360 Team hub to a Collaboration for Revit cloud model.

If the reference models are uploaded to the same hub and project, you can access them for reference within Revit.  In the image below, I have a cloud model with reference models that are uploaded to my BIM 360 Team project in a Reference Models folder.  Within Revit, I have access to these models.

Thanks for the follow up, it appears that I am following the same work flow as you mentioned above.

I am loading an external revit file into the project folder on BIM 360 Team, this would basically be a detached copy of a central file that we are linking in for reference.

bim 360.PNGWhen I open link manager and click add, the file is not available. The only files I see are files that have been workshared on the HUB and are now Cloud Revit Models. When I open link manager and click add, the file is not available. The only files I see are files that have been workshared on the HUB and are now Cloud Revit Models.rserver.PNG

As you can see from the screen shots the file I uploaded to BIM 360 Team is not available within Revit. If I select the hub icon I can link it to the project but then it uses my local directory for the path and is not accessible by any other team member working on the project.

I failed to mention the fact that I am working in Revit 2017, after reading more on Help and Forums I realize that 2017 does not have the same functionality of ADC as 2018.2 does. The solution provided is the correct solution however for 2017 users It appears the only answer is to initiate each linked file to BIM 360 as a Cloud Revit model.

Hi Patrick,

I have a question about the Desktop Connector in response to your previous answer.

We're using BIM 360 for a short while now and I used the desktop connector to upload several reference rvt models and .dwg's.

I linked them to my cloud model and all the links seem to work. But when I publish a 3d-view to BIM 360 Team the linked files aren't visible in the view.

Do you know if there is any way to make them visible or is the only solution to make the linked files cloud based?

Thanking you in advance for your help.

Best regards,

Roeland
