Version issue in BIM 360

Hi,

Currently we have two deciding factors (Number & Title) for versioning in BIM 360. Please find the below case and advise.

Below drawings I uploaded in BIM 360 as V1

• GF-STR SPD-0023 GROUND FLOOR STRUCTURAL GENERAL ARRANGEMENT PLAN ZONE-23
• GE-STR-SPD-0231 GROUND FLOOR SECTION DETAILS ZONE-23 (SHEET 01 OF 01)

We received the commented sheet & uploaded the same as V2. We incorporated the changes & need to submit the drawings as rev 01

• GF-STR SPD-0023 GROUND FLOOR STRUCTURAL GENERAL ARRANGEMENT PLAN ZONE-23
• GE-STR-SPD-0231 GROUND FLOOR SECTION DETAILS ZONE-23 (SHEET 01 OF 02)
• GE-STR-SPD-0232 GROUND FLOOR SECTION DETAILS ZONE-23 (SHEET 02 OF 02)

If I upload “GE-STR-SPD-0231” it will come as a new version (V1) because of title change. But I need this as V3 as shown below. 

• GE-STR-SPD-0231 GROUND FLOOR SECTION DETAILS ZONE-23 (SHEET 01 OF 01) (V1- Rev 00)
• GE-STR-SPD-0231 GROUND FLOOR SECTION DETAILS ZONE-23 (SHEET 01 OF 01) (V2- Rev 00 Commented)
• GE-STR-SPD-0231 GROUND FLOOR SECTION DETAILS ZONE-23 (SHEET 01 OF 02) (V3- Rev 01)

Hi Bujair,

Currently in Docs,  we version up file only when both the number and title are the same in Plans. I saw in your case, when you upload for the third time, the title changed to "GE-STR-SPD-0231 GROUND FLOOR SECTION DETAILS ZONE-23 (SHEET 01 OF 02) " from "GE-STR-SPD-0231 GROUND FLOOR SECTION DETAILS ZONE-23 (SHEET 01 OF 01)", so it will not version up, it goes to a new V1 instead.

If you would like to make it version up as V3, please keep the title the same one.

Hi Leslie,

Sorry. This will not help us. This I already specified in my question (If I upload “GE-STR-SPD-0231” it will come as a new version (V1) because of title change. But I need this as V3 as shown below. ). we can’t predict the number of  section sheet at the time of rev 00 submission. Depends on the requirements it may change.

We have two suggestion

• Change/limit the deciding factor to number
• Give power to admin to update the title field. So we can change and update (Currently we can edit the title field after upload, but it will not change in data base. So the status will same)

Thanks for your reply. Totally understood your needs. For your kindly suggestions:

1) we now have the plan to do the investigation for only use "Number" as the deciding factor

2) for the second one, I strongly recommend you to post it in our Idea station so that our product team can check it.

Hi Bujair,

A follow-up for the second point, one suggested solution:

In extraction phase, you can change the number or title to what you needs, then continue to publish them, the file will be handled by the number or title you changed.

Please refer the sceenshot below.

Thank you for your replay.

We have more than 100 drawings (minimum )/day to upload. Sometime we are uploading more than 500. So it is very hard to go and check each title. Our drawing number will remains same. That is the reason we are requested to limit the deciding factor to number only. Anyway I will post this in Ideas.
