Docs licensing - "floating" seats not auto-assigning?

This is a question our reseller is investigating, but I thought to post here in case someone has run into this.

We are beginning a pilot of BIM 360 this week. Today we spent time setting up users and some of our licenses (and being confused by the new Unified interface vs. the UI that has been in all of the marketing material). We have licenses for BIM 360 Design Collaboration, and users with these licenses can correctly access projects (BIM 360 projects? Autodesk Build projects?) and navigate through Docs.

We also have "floating" concurrent use Docs licenses. We have users who are Members of a Project and assigned Docs permissions. Our assumption was that any of our users configured this way should be able to access the Project up until all seats are consumed. Instead, our users encounter a "Start a Free Trial" screen and are not permitted access to the Project or to Docs.

Do we have something configured wrong? In our license management? In our Project membership? In our Project Administration?

Hey, not sure if you've found the answer to this yet. I've been navigating the same thing lately and found that the new ACC licensing environment is vastly different than the BIM 360 environment. BIM 360 licensing management was fairly loose and confusing. If you were added to a project and given access to a tool, you were marked as taking a seat of that tool. This was not very good because you could easily overassign your licenses without knowing it (guilty on that account!). With ACC, from what I can gather, it's different in two ways. First, I believe it's BYOS for all tools including Docs. Second, my experience is that you need to assign your license in the Account License Manager to give users a license to the tool. There's no real good documentation out there on this change though and account managers/resellers are all playing catchup with all the changes!

Dear, The ACC platform works in a different interface than what we had been working with with BIM 360, in the case of Autodesk Docs it comes with the AEC Collection, it brings similar functionalities to BIM 360 Docs, but they are not the same and the projects work separately, this means that they must define whether they are going to work in BIM 360 or in ACC. In the case of the BIM Collaborate Pro module, this is the old BIM 360 Design, the difference is that Autodesk unified BIM 360 Design (Design Collaboration) and BIM 360 Coordinate (Model Coordination) and in the Case of BIM 360 Build, in ACC is Autodesk Build, which brings the same functionalities and improved plus the Cost service. Also now you can use your licenses from Autodesk Account and if the external company has their licenses, you can invite them and they use their licenses as external. Here is a detail of the new Autodesk Construction Cloud products:

Autodesk® Docs

Autodesk® Docs provides access to the Docs product which is included in Autodesk® BIM Collaborate and Autodesk® Build. Docs provides the common data environment for the unified products. Autodesk® Docs is also available as part of the AEC Collection.

@dbogleb This is exactly the case. All new ACC products needs to be assign through the Autodesk Account by the Account Administrator. Once assigned and loaded to a project (entitlement assigned) the user will now be able to access what products they have.

You can assign a, let's say, Build to the user, it will basically inform you that the user doesn't have anything assigned to him and have to activate a trial or purchase the product. Confusing right.

What this basically means, as it's all a BYOS, is that if I'm a PM and have Build and the company I'm working with only have Docs, I can leverage Docs and my build but the other companies on the project can only access what they've purchased.

FYI, changes coming July which will allow companies who had Docs to auto upgrade to ACC Docs and you will also be able to purchase ACC Docs separately.
