Cannot delete a model

I'm a Revit 2016 A360 C4R vet, just jumping into Revit 2019 BIM360 Design and I created a project test file in the "plans" folder. I read in the Forums that "plans" has some limitations, so I re-created the model in the "Project Files" folder.  Issue is that now I cannot delete the model.

 

I am the project admin. I'm using the Collaborate Tab>manage cloud models>project>Actions

 

The only 2 options are "Relinquish" and "View Versions"

You cannot delete models from within Revit, you will need to delete via BIM 360 Document Management (where the models are published to) if you are using the latest version of BIM 360 Design/C4R. Given your description - I assume this is stored in BIM 360 Document Management. 

 

If this is tied to a BIM 360 Team project, you will also need to log into BIM 360 Team and delete the model from the web. See (both versions):

Sorry, was out of town last week.  This solution does not work as the model is not visible in BIM 360 Documents (but is visible in Revit, see screenshots below).

 

**Note that the "good" model does show up in BIM 360 Docs in the Project Files folder, but that's not the one I want to delete.  I'm wondering if this is a versioning issue as the models are the same name, and the model in the Project Files folder recognizes 2 versions... Problem is that when navigating in Revit, they show up in 2 locations?!

Just finally "upgrading" and been frustrated trying to figure this out for 4 hours.

Did anyone ever answer this or is there really no longer a way to remove a cloud model?

 

FWIW-

I had finally given up and figured I'd just delete the project and start again but..... there's also no way to remove a project.

From what I see in the screenshot it looks like you published to Plans. It isn't recommended that you publish your Revit model to the Plans folder rather than the Project Files folder - you won't be able to see the files in Docs but will still see them in the models list when opening the collaborated project in Revit. 

 

If that isn't a collaborated model, then the previous article I posted has the correct workflow. You can drag-drop the files into Plans to extract sheets and delete them in Docs.

Thanks for offering “ways to do things.”
Could you answer the question:
How do we remove a collaborative shared model that is no longer relevant so it won’t show up inside the revit Bim360 file menu?
This used to be possible in C4R.

If you followed the correct workflow for collaboration and published to the Project Files folder, follow my previous instructions. 

 

1. Via the Collaborate tab, go to the manage models folder. 

2. Select the project. 

3. Select the "Actions" drop-down. 

4. Click "Delete". 

 

*if you can't find this function in the dialog, post a screenshot so I can take a look*

 

OR...

 

If you are having the same issue where you cannot see the file in Docs because you published to the Plans folder, then you would have to log a ticket with support and they'd have to have the development team attempt to purge the files. 

 

They would need:

  1. The name of the Docs account that the project resides on. 
  2. The name of the project. 
  3. The name of the file that needs to be deleted.
  4. The exact file path you uploaded to.

As an update to this issue, I still have not been able to delete the rogue "plans" collaboration model, as we have not been able to spare the downtime of deleting ALL model(s) off BIM360 and seeing if that might work (the only option we have left).  We've just alerted the team that it is not the correct model and revised the "starting view" to a drafting view that states "this is not the correct model, please navigate to project files..." So far, no issues, but I'm concerned if the two models might ever get corrupted as they are the same name and there appears to be some versioning confusion.

 

FYI, there wasn't any documentation on proper location of the BIM model when establishing the collaboration.  May I suggest that the dev team not allow the user to put a collaboration model in the "plans" folder or otherwise provide a warning/instructions? Folders are new to me, having jumped from R2016 (A360) to R2019 (BIM 360). I still have no idea what the purpose is, and the folder names are not at all intuitive.... just my $0.02

Here is our documentation on where you should publish the model:

 

Getting Started with BIM 360 Design

 

Under the section, "Organize folders for the project", see the following:

 

"Every project starts with pre-configured top-level folders to support a specific process or data type. These folders are called Plans and Project Files. You can add subfolders to these folders. Use Plans to manage, publish, and review the latest set of construction documents, in both 2D and 3D formats. Use Project Files for any project document, including design data and all other document types.
Note: The Design Collaboration module only supports folders under Project Files.
You can manually create subfolders for teams in the Document Management module, or through a managed path using the Design Collaboration module. The managed path is recommended as it creates the correct subfolders and its permissions. For more information, see the help topic, To Work with Folders."

 

We can try purging the records from the Plans folder if you PM me the details (per my previous email). I can send that information to the development team and see if we can remove the files from Plans, then you can re-publish to Project Files. If you'd like me to do that, please let me know. 

 

Also, I've recommended that suggestion to the development team that we prevent uploads to Plans until it can be properly supported with Collaboration. 

 

I'll look forward to hearing back soon.

Scott,
Thank you for your help and patience. With the transition from C4R to 360 design, despite reading the many guides and help documents, we've struggled to adapt to the new terminology, find the right places to click, and understand the logic behind some of the best practices. The terminology between "sets" "plans" "packages" and what should go where still seems to take several rounds of trial and error before it clicks for us users out here so we're developing our own tutorials for our staff.
I did want to thank you for sticking through this end-user confusion to answer the question!
It does work when used as intended.

Hello, has the problem been solved? Because, we have the same problem on our side. We are not able to delete a file we put in Plan. This causes errors. Thank you for responding to the correct way to delete the file we want more.

Hello,

 

I just solved deleting the cloud model by deleting the subfolder where the cloud model was in.

I see that Yours isn't under subfolder, and currently it's not possible to move cloud model between folders under Plans section, but maybe this advice helps you.

Did you have a subfolder within a "team" folder? did you delete the subfolder or the "team" folder? and last queation... did you delete the "team" folder from the Project admin/Services/Design Collaboration area? It doesn't give me an option to delete but rather to Deactivate Team...

Hello and thank you for your info...

I have the same issue.I have enabled a revit file for collaboration in Revit 2018.3 in BIM 360. A team folder was created in Design Collaboration and that is where I enabled the file in... It is in the Project Files section.

 

Is there a way to delete the files that appear in the  “Manage cloud models” window in Revit. Revit does not have that option as it did when using BIM 360 Team. The files have been deleted from the "team" folder in Document Management I also deleted the content in consumed folder and in shared folders. The models still appear in Revit and even though these files are non-existent anymore on BIM 360 they are causing confusion to our team.

Could you help us solve is or should we put in a ticket?

The solution provided by @scott.a.green is not really solving the issue... I request for it to be taken of as the "accepted solution" as it only causes confusion and waste of time to the people that view this post.

The same information applies.  Design Collaboration and Document Management are both views on the same underlying data.  Deleting a Cloud Workshared model in Document Management should delete it from Revit Cloud Worksharing services, which will make it no longer show up in Revit file browsing (recent files page excepted).  If you're still seeing it, then I'd recommend a support case for us to investigate.

I have submitted a ticket but Autodesk doesn't know how to solve it either. Matthew Spencer is on it as we speak.

 

I will have to try my own methods, probably deactivating the team folder in Design Collaboration and creating a new one, do you think that may work? What about deleting the consumed files do I just simply delete it from the consumed folder and it also deletes the package in Design Collaboration. Could you point me to the Subject Matter Expert on this?

You shouldn't need to delete the Team Folder to delete the cloud workshared model.  Simply deleting the model within Document Management, in the Folder that contains the "live" version of that model (not any copied versions created), will delete the Cloud Workshared model.  I just confirmed this myself with a test model.  Can you please confirm specifically what folder you deleted the Model in within Document Management, and where exactly you are seeing it in Revit?

 

As for a SME on this topic, I'm the lead Product Manager for BIM 360 Design, and I can recruit other members of the product team as needed.
