BIM 360 mark up dimensions snapping

Hi Autodesk.

In the recent update it seems that markup dimensions only work when snapping

is there a way to turn this off? make a dimension in white space?

we were able to do this previously.

Users are trying to make mark ups showing missed penetrations in precast and want to use the dimension mark up.

Hi @Anonymous ,

As you've noted, measurements / dimension now snap to lines on vector PDFs, and there's currently no option to disable that. Thanks for providing this feedback - we'll definitely consider adding such an option or allow users to do both (either snap or place dimensions in white space).

Best Regards,

Doreen

Hi Doreen,

yes please. both options would be ideal. as noted. raster PDfs allow dims to be clicked anywhere.

almost always our users are creating dimensions to show measurements of new items.

if the dimensions snapped to markups created that would also be helpful. currently circles, lines, squares created using the mark up tools dont snap.

as an example if youre marking up a window moving 2000mm to the right on a wall. you cant draw a square and dimension the 2000mm. the dimensions wont snap.

thank you for you reply keep us posted.

@doreen.dvoretz

any updates on this? users arnt able to put dimensions as markups.

this makes putting penetrations on precast impossible. what is the intended work flow here by autodesk?

how should we show the above mark up on a vector saved pdf?

currently shop drawings cannot continue.  I am having to remove all pdfs and reupload as raster!

just for anyone with the same problem. bim 360 has now fixed this. thank you bim 360 team.

there is a vector raster settign in project admin>document management >advanced setting > Vector PDF viewing.

Thank you for this @Anonymous and @doreen.dvoretz !

However, is there an option where we can enable/disable Vector PDF viewing on a "per user preference" and not on Project Admin level? As we are having conflicts on dimension markup snapping due to different preferences. (Just like with the email notification where we can allow each user to  modify on their own)

Please let us know for any workaround regarding this concern. Thank you!

Further to the above and just to clarify, the Vector PDF view should be turned OFF to be able to dimension anywhere you like

so let me get this straight ... Autodesk decided this should be an admin full project level switch
who is making the decisions at Autodesk ... do you have a chicken wheel, or does the cleaner get a blindfold and a dart

heres the thing noone will EVER want the result from the snap ... my markups dont need to show 0.001 mm measurements we need the ability to set precision and rounding so we can use it as a mark up tool
currently the dimension tool is next to use less ... we need both snaps and editing available 24/7
We want to be able to snap to measure accurately and without having to go change project admin settings (or go find an admin to do it for the drafter) we also need to display markup dims rounded to the correct value and precision.
As it stands i have to draw 2 arrows 2 lines and a piece of text to show a dimension markup
Has ANYONE in the BIM team actually worked on a project in the real world ???
