Document Management Upload for linked fails

Recently, I have converted from stand-alone to BIM 360 Docs. I receive detached models that I link to my own as necessary. I have been linking them from my local folder (not BIM 360). But, for my collaborators to see them, I think I need to put them in the Project Files. When uploading one file of four to my Project Files folder, I receive the error message "Couldn't upload file because it was previously saved to this folder using Revit Cloud Worksharing. Please try uploading to a different folder, or use Revit Cloud Worksharing to save to current folder." I had previously received a similar message when trying the Linked Files option, so I tried the standalone option, thinking to relink them in the cloud folder, only to receive the same message. How to sort this out> Should I be using the Linked Files option for the next update?

Hi @dc,

  • If you only want to share the design file and do not want to keep the version history, there are two options:
    • upload the file into different folder.
    • change the file name and upload it to the same folder.
    • Note: You can use BIM 360 Docs web or Desktop Connector to upload it.
  • If you would like to share the design file in the same folder with the same document name and also keep the version history, please publish the file from Revit Cloud Worksharing.

We will continue to investigate how to remove this confusing scenario.

Thanks and best regards,

Hi Jayson. I read Jason's response, but I don't seem to have the issues he refers to, so it's not relevant.

I worked around, but I'll have the same problems next time I get an updated model.

If you can assist, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Dave

hi @dc ,

You have Model A (your Collaborated Model) and then you have 4 models that are direct uploads, because your consultants are sending them to you detached models. We'll call these models 1,2,3 and 4.

Collaborate Model A to the Cloud and direct upload models 1,2,3 and 4. This should go without a hitch. When you open model A from Revit (via Revit Cloud Worksharing) link models 1,2,3 and 4 as external resources to Model A. You do this using desktop connector so that it adds a BIM360 drive to your computer.

Don't try to upload Model A into that same folder, it is already there because of Revit Cloud worksharing. This is what would flag the "Couldn't upload file because it was previously saved to this folder using Revit Cloud Worksharing" message.

If you need to update Model A simply synch the model then publish a set. This will update the previewable document in BIM 360 docs. If you need to update Models 1-4 you can simply re-upload them the next time you get the detached file.

Please let me know if you still have questions or if this answers it.

Thanks!
