Desktop Connector - managing files

Hi,

To be straightforward, file management in BIM 360 is a farce and this is why:

In a project I have a 'subfolder 1' which contains > 8000 files. I want to move about 2000 files from this 'subfolder 1' to an other 'subfolder 2'.  I found out that it is possible to move them via the command prompt when the files are synced local. After a sync of 'subfolder 2' they are also available via bim 360 cloud. Unfortunately, in the end it is actually copying to 'subfolder 2' because in de cloud those files still remain in 'subfolder 1'.

To delete the files in 'subfolder 1', I have to do the ridiculous activities in de web browser to find every file manually and delete it from there.

So, if there is a better solution then please let me know.

BTW, download all files, delete them and upload again is not the solution because the urls from the files in bim360 are being used in GIS environment to link the geodata with a corresponding file in bim 360.

I wouldn't be counting on the connector for that kind of thing. How can you blame the system for not being able to do something it probably wasn't designed to do in the first place? Why didn't you do it correctly in the first place? Are you upset because your solution didn't work and you didn't see it coming?

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Hi @RobDraw,

Doing it correctly in the first place is not the right perspective. These files have been uploaded since 2021 and are serving a purpose in a large project area with different subprojects with access via GIS and BIM360. Because a new subprojects will start certain files must be moved to a new subfolder with specified restricted permissions and access. If it were all new files the all would be easier.

So, I wonder if you have a better solution?

Thanks!

Yeah, something that doesn't use Desktop Connector as if it were File Explorer. I don't think it is meant for that kind of thing.
