Delete Package from BIM360 Design

Our first project on BIM360 Design has involved a lot of trial and error and setting up trial packages to test the features. Now I'd like to remove all the clutter. Is that possible?

I've deleted all the models from the shared and consumed folders, but the packages themselves still exist. 

Is it possible to delete them?

Hi @Mike.Greisen,

Thank you for posting to the BIM 360 Forum.  I understand that you are trying to delete packages created in one of your sample projects. 

There is no way to delete packages created within the Design Collaboration module.  Packages in a project would remain and would be displayed in timeline throughout the lifecycle of a project.  The package timeline is the official record of exchange of deliverables throughout the project.

No solution was offered.  We need the ability to edit and delete past packages or at very least a way to void a past package and hide it from the swim lanes.  This is a serious limitation and it has to be resolved sooner than later.

@sburke, I understand your request but introducing this functionality into the low trust workflow would be against the concept. We want to always be able to reproduce what has happened in the past and therefore deleting or modifying a package would break this concept.

The only solution I can propose, is to create a new project for the live use and keep the old one for testing and as a playground. But I assume that this is not an option. @Mike.Greisen, as you mention, you have deleted all the models in all folders, the only artifact left are the packages visible in the time line and I would assume that they will be less dominant ,the further the project evolves.

I appologize that we can't offer any better solution for now. Feel free to propose an idea an the ideas board with your desired behavior.

Hi @martyn_messerli this explanation of the braking the concept doesn't add up for me. You can still maintain a history log that shows packages  were created or deleted by users to keep things honest per se while giving teams the ability to clear the clutter from the main views. Yes it would be great to create a test project and play around with it to learn but we typically don't get the luxury of doing that as most of us hit the ground running with a new system.

Since posting, we’ve put maybe a dozen projects through now and this comes up all the time.
The initial post was a request to clear up some testing I’d done, but it seems quite common for someone to post something incorrectly and ask to delete it.

As I mention, deleting a package is not an option for the low trust environment, at least from my understanding. Hidding a package would of course be an option. I added an idea to the idea board so we can track the need of it and prioritize features.

Autodesk, you got this wrong. Please allow deleting of packages so that your customers can test the functionality of the platform. I believe all of us understand your reasoning, but we're telling you that won't work for us. If we submit a service request can you forcefully delete in the meantime? We don't want to wait forever for the next release. Thank you!

I'm in my full blown project and I just messed up on the friggin package title! Wanna continue to be the leader in the industry and keep your work from home job? Provide us with a way to at least modify the Package Title (post REDBULL button push)... It's a waste of "Virtual Space" to Share the exact same package just for a TITLE ADJUSTMENT! Now I'll accidentally, during the biggest meeting of my career, COMPARE TWO OF THE EXACT SAME SETS OF MODELS!!!!  A little wiggle room for us out here on the front lines is always appreciated... Is deleting a package still not possible in ACC?  I can't believe this issues still exists.

I completely get the need to amend something due to a mistake or a change of mind. I also wish I had this ability at times to correct my occasional Packaging mistakes.

But at the same time, we need to recognise that when something is distributed to another party, that they may have already acted upon that data. In which case it shouldn't always be able to be deleted or amended.

So instead, I would prefer Design Collaboration support a means to Archive the models. And have those archived models not be shown on the Timeline, but with a toggle to make them visible.
