Can't see Element ID of object when selecting in Document Management

Hi,

Is it not possible to get the Element ID or Revit GUID to be shown as a parameter or something similar when selecting an object in 2D or 3D, while within a model in Document Management?

Hi @Anonymous

As default you cannot see your Element ID or Revit GUID in Revit so it will not show then inside Docs. This would be the same for any parameter not shown in the Revit model within Docs.

I would suggest using Dynamo to extract that data and adding a parameter to the elements you need.

Hi Gareth,

Thanks for the insight.

I suppose the ID itself is not key - however what is key is to find the markup/issue and associated element in Revit, so that one can fix the issue. Do you have an idea on how to approach this?

No worries.

Ok so as it stands in the Doc's you cannot, so it would be a manual exercise. Now here is the but there is an open beta testing program undergoing from Autodesk to look using linking the issue tool from BIM 360 to Revit. If you see this LinkedIn post from Marco Ramolla it explains more and how to get involved. Please bear in mind this is a beta testing application so it is not recommended using on live projects, because it many not actually become a released solution.

If you wish to look at issues you could look at using BIM 360 Coordinate and Navisworks BIM 360 Issues app.

I hope this answers your question.

Hi @Anonymous when you click on any element in the Document Management interface, the Properties window shows the element ID of that selected element and also in the Model window. However, it is not displayed as a Parameter in this window by default.

On a side note, you can also search for the elements based on their Element ID in the Model window.

Hi @DeepakMaini

You mentioned that it is not displayed per default. In my project I don't see the Element ID in either the Properties window nor the Model Browser.

So do I need to do something in particular? Maybe in Revit to make it appear?

@Anonymous what format file have you uploaded? If it is a Revit file, then nothing needs to be done.

@DeepakMaini Well I'm using BIM 360 Design, so the models on BIM 360 Docs are directly from Revit.

@Anonymous it should work then. Which Web browser do you use? I use Chrome for any BIM 360 related activities.

Not sure what is going on mate. I can add you to one of my test projects so you can see what I see and then check how is it different from your file.

Same problem, I have 2 different projects, in one you can see the element ID in the other no.

Why? I don't know why, and is very annoying.

Please quote me if you find the solution.

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/bim-360-support/revit-object-element-id-not-shown-in-bim360-docs-brow...

Same issue here, suddenly some projects are affected, others not.  In my opinion there is no difference between the projects (all use BIM360 Design) and it worked fine on all projects in the past.

I guess something changed on the side of Autodesk, but I can't figure out what is causing it.

After some testing I narrowed down the issue.

For the affected projects : In the same BIM360 project and the same RVT file, the ID is showing in Model Coordination properties, but not in the BIM360 viewer properties.

So it's a BIM360 viewer issue (I created a support case with Autodesk).

@Anonymous if you still experience the same problem, take contact with Autodesk (create a support case).  They just solved the issue in our BIM360 projects.

Thanks for the info.

I just got the Model Coordination module in my project and here I am able to see the Element ID.

I suppose I can live with this..

However Autodesk should fix this for Document Management.

@Anonymous indeed in Model Coordination it was working, but not all our projectmembers have access to Model Coordintion, so we need the functionality in Docs viewer also.
The fix is per Account ID (BIM360 hub) so they need that code to fix it, or maybe in a new update ...

I'm guessing we'll have to wait around 5 years or so before they resolved this 🙄

@jett.bautista it's a bug somewhere, you need to contact Autodesk (support case) and they'll fix it for you.
