Adding Attachments to Checklists in BIM 360 Field Management

In the previous version of the BIM 360 Field we had a very nice option to attach photos or .pdf type documents directly to the checklist from your hard drive, storage, or the documentation library on your computer. In new version I can only see the attachment can done to the checklist template. This doesn't make sense to me. First of all it misleading personnel on site trying to work with constantly modified (with new attachments) template. Second,  the purpose of any checklist to provide evidence and information with unique  content to specific conditions and location, not a generic meaningless responses. Therefore the ability to attach documents and files from the hard drive on my laptop is critical for our work.  Thank you

Hi @Gennady.M ,

This is purely a matter of timing. We are working on the ability to edit within the web browser at the moment and will have this available in the near term.

Today, you can add photos to the checklists on the mobile device.

Thank you for sharing your feedback.

Kind regards,

Shirin

We are so looking forward to this feature that is very needed to us within the process for the client and other issues states that need clarification within checklist a lot of paperwork that is scanned and now photographed but some just can't be photographed because it's too big it can be an important report for example.

Hi all,

Wouldn't a simple interim fix to this be to create a question in a checklist called "Attachments" then attached as many photos to the issue or details section of that?

you can do it right away under the item no need for extra section, the problem is when you have an important repport that need to be attached and it's 35 pages say and you sitting there and photograf every single page. We are back to same thing as scanning no win time with those.

Good Day Shirin,

I see that the last answer to the question was in July. Has BIM figured out yet when the option for an attachment will be introduced to the checklist?

We are currently conducting inspection during the fabrication stage of our projects, and our inspectors are dealing with vendors/contractors that are not yet utilizing BIM. And we are still dealing with hard copies of reports while in the field, would it not be possible, just like we add photo's (issues and notes) to our checklists, to add an attachment i.e. PDF copy of a document to the checklist?

One purpose, we can keep that document with the checklist instead of scanning the document and then later adding it to the BIM Doc platform. And then try to map the document back to a checklist.

This is required critically to be honest, but at the moment what you can do is upload a document to document management in BIM360 and copy the link of that document and put it as response/note in the field management where ever it is required. It is suitable for large documents, 1 page document can be put as pictures. Just make sure that the person who wants to open the document has access to that folder under document management. see the attachment.

This is a bad workaround! how hard is it for autodesk to add the ability of both uploading from local or directly chosing a document from docs!

I would agree that this is a poor workaround. The ability to link information in an integrated platform should not be based around cutting and pasting links into a note field. There should be an ability to browse the Docs area and select the required information which creates the links automatically.

agreed, but thats the only solution that works for me at the moment. Its not the best but it works. I am waiting for auto-desk updates to have the ability to attach PDFs

Hi @Shirin.arnold

Are there any developments regarding this matter? It is essential for the work we are doing to be able to attach and mark-up files (in .pdf) to the Checklists from our Drawings server. The current setup Autodesk for BIM 360 doesn't work for 2 reasons:

 1 - The file needs to be in the Document Management folder and the user need to have access to such folder which, in some cases, is not possible;

2 - If we mark-up the file, that same file will also be marked-up in the Document Management folder making it impossible to be used in different Checklists.

Could you please provide a date when this problem will be addressed? I've noticed this discussion has been going for over a year...

Thanks you in advance.

Is anybody at Autodesk working on this? It seems like it would be an easy fix but with this much time having gone by, I don't think anyone is even trying.

 HI@Shirin.arnold,

Is there any update with this?

This functionality would be critical requirement for my company as this feature is heavily used on Classic field when using checklists and the next gen product has not met parity.

Is there anyone working on this feature? The last update from AutoDesk was that it would be incorporated in the near future, which was in 2019.

The workarounds for this feature are time consuming and unreasonable to expect my subcontractors to do. A simple pdf attachment should not be difficult to incorporate if I can already browse the file explorer to add JPEGs from my desktop.

The switch to Field Management is meant to be a more efficient practice but this is an incredibly frustrating feature that has been omitted.
