Search logic improvement

Search logic improvement

In general, a filename can be a concatenation of multiple criteria (e.g. internal document number, discipline, sub-discipline, sub-supplier document number, etc.)

Currently, the search logic exclusively checks for directly connected terms of a filename string (from left to right). Therefore, randomly arranged keywords as part of the filename aren't searchable. Example: "FURNACE WIDE SPACE SECTION-LEFT SIDE WALL_C02835462026_1110111_0010020.dwg".

Result: search for "LEFT SIDE WALL" would find the file, whereas search for "LEFT WALL SIDE" wouldn't find the file

Workaround: use search operators such as "AND", "OR" to combine multiple keywords in the search string, Note: search operators are only available on web version for now;

However, in reality site workers often search for equipment specific keywords (in engineering folders having multiple hundreds of files) like:

  • Tank
  • Cable tray
  • Boiler
  • Wall
  • Etc.

It would be desirable, if the search logic could also handle "contains" logic because those users often do not exactly know the sequence of these words in the filename.

I was about to post same idea but saw that you have already done so  adding here few things with my VOTE !!!

You made a really good point here and I would like to vote 100 times, Search in Document management need more improvement I would also love to have sorting function. I m working on Infrastructure project and heaps of cad files are seating in Doc management it will help quickly to sort and check the status if files need to be updated on weekly basis to match other Common data environment such as projectwise

Autodesk is heavily investing in product improvement so I believe this feature may come in future.
