Screen Shot Feature for Issues- Docs/Field/BIM 360 Issues App 2D or 3D

Screen Shot Feature for Issues- Docs/Field/BIM 360 Issues App 2D or 3D

When you are logging an Issue with a pin point in a model view, drawing view via the PC the ability to add an attachment. The other piece that is missing is to take a screen grab or Mark up that image to describe what you are seeing. Most people are graphic in nature which is why 3D model reviews are so powerful but being able to take that image or snap shot of the PDF, Model view, or even a photo add depth and historical reference.

The experiences are different in some modules - Model Coordination automatically takes the image of the clash. This needs to be in every issue feature but I think have the ability to just grab screen shot so you can take multiple view if necessary is good. Models change and evolve and being able to reference the original issue is easier with an image vs look at an old version that gets messy. Also it enriches the checking experience to look at open issue via web and glance at images vs just reading text.

This is part or similar to the experience in Revitizo, BIM Track, BIM Collab but most projects don't need all those extra features and project costs if Issues were improved for user experience. No one wants to manage another add-in or software plugin to view- review - and track items in the model or drawings if it is stored in the digital platform the files exist in.

I could NOT figure out how to edit a post when I realized I have a typo in the first sentence- It is meant to say

"When you are logging an Issue with a pin point in a model view, drawing view via the PC the ability to add an attachment IS NOT PRESENT." You can add a photo in the mobile app or add an attachment with BIM 360 Issues app in Navis but not in Issue Web browser.

Hello again, Lauren,

Are you using any add-in to capture?

Have you tried making a screenshot and then pin the photo into the model issue?

@willyortega52 what do you mean by Pin? We can save the image and add as attachment- using any 3rd party screen grab (snag it, windows snip it, or a something more advanced) but it is 3 steps. Create issue with Pin- Save. Then Grab screen shots, mark up, save, go back to issue and add. In Navisworks we do a saved view and can save those out and add to issue. If you know a way to minimize steps and not have to use ANOTHER 3rd part Issue tracking too I am all in!

On mobile you can say take photo and use camera to take a screen shot.

To continue this request... The switchback to the authoring software would be the next step. You bring up BIM Track, Revizto, etc. We are using these tools to pick up the lack of in BIM 360.

@brucegund You are exactly right being able to go directly into the Authoring app to the issue or elements in question is really key to the round trip collaboration experience.

This would be really useful. It works well for model coordonation so would be great to see this rolled out for all issues.

This is a good idea. I would also like to see the markup tools available when looking at an attached image.

Agree. An automatic screenshot when placing a pin for an Issue is required, just like model coordination.

Thanks

When chatting with our Autodesk support team, I explained it this way:  We want the ability to treat ACC Model Coordination issues the same way we used to treat BIM 360 Field issues ...

  1. Issue is created with a picture (in this case a screenshot)
  2. Issue is set to "Open" and assigned to a Trade Partner or other party
  3. The assignee correct the issue and takes a picture of the corrected work (in this case another screenshot)
  4. Issue is set to "Work Complete" and reassigned to the General Contractor to review
  5. If work was completed successfully, the GC set the Issue to "Closed"

This is a basic QA/QC workflow.  The second picture allows for the documentation that the work was completed versus just taking someone's work for it or for the reviewer to have to dig back in and try to figure out what change was made.

Ideally, whatever tool is created to enable the "add screenshot" ability would be able to be used elsewhere in the platform (i.e. replacing the auto-created initial clash capture, taking a screenshot of a drawing or specification document, etc.).
