Print revit file from "Plans" folder.

Print revit file from "Plans" folder.

Hi,

Today, we can read and browse the sheets of a revit file easily from the plans folder, which is very convenient.

However, a very useful thing is missing from this feature, print a plan is still unavailable (either from the viewer or the list).

Is it expected that this feature will be implemented (soon) ? Because we are forced to duplicate the revit file in PDF version so that we can print it.

Best regards.

PFAUWADEL Hervé.

I believe the point of not allowing printing from within plans is to alleviate having to print. Invite them as a member to view the sheets lice in the Plans folder - that way everyone is up to date. When you print, you just disconnected yourself.

Printing to paper is still very much needed for those restricted/secure locations where admitting electronic devices is almost impossible. Having a paper print is far simpler in these cases, even if it dumbs the process down a little.

Chad, very much agreed! Even to the point that I suggested this be one of the first few BIM 360 Add-ins our firm creates. It will take a long time to remove printing paper or .pdf, but I do realize what Autodesk is trying to accomplish (besides world domination - lol) with Docs and BIM 360 overall; they are on the right path to alleviate the disconnect at any point in the project. I think it's safe to say everyone or least MOST people have a smartphone today that could download an app. Otherwise companies are providing Ipads/tablets of some sort to foremen and some journeyman in the field. I just hope everything is executed on properly without gouging customers.

Need to print Sheets from from Plans whether PDF or Revit Sheet.  Download to PDF is the workaround but adds wasted time.

The problem with "invite as a member to view sheets" is that it consumes a license. This system badly needs a view only user level which does not consume a license (can understand need for Autodesk Account to manage access) for extended project teams. For instance we have 160 active facilities with team members potentially using plans. It is not viable to support thousands of licenses for view use only.

HI @Anonymous

The latest BIM 360 Docs update (August 20, 2018) includes the ability to print a 2D drawing or 3D model directly from Docs - with or without markups.  For more information, please refer to the Release Notes:  http://blogs.autodesk.com/bim360-release-notes/2018/08/20/bim-360-docs-update-august-20-2018/

Hi @joan_allen

That is great, will it be offered on other design document types (DWFx?)

UPDATE 2018-08-21 10:22: Force refreshed the browser and print appeared on DWF too! Yay! Brilliant!

@Anonymous glad you like it!  It works for many formats that are viewable in the BIM 360 viewer, including PDF, RVT, DWG, DWF...

@joan_allen you just eliminated 50% of our publishing (making PDFs just for people to download/print) and 98% of my BIM 360 users first question/feature requests

Printing from multiple page DWFx I noticed if you choose "Pages | All" only one sheet prints (not all the document)?

If choose the other Pages option and specify more than one sheet (eg 1-5 of 10) get an error "Out of bounds page reference, limit is 1" and only one sheet prints.

Is this as designed?
