Markups Set to Public by Default

Markups Set to Public by Default

Please change the default setting of Markups to 'Public' instead of 'Private'.

We have had a few cases where this setting has been missed by Site Management teams, so they have saved the Markup and are under the impression that the rest of the project team can see their comments.

Just sat in a meeting where these has come up ... can this please be actioned as soon as possible.  We have had teams miss important markups because of this!

This will never get fixed, it was first raised in March 2018! I don't think Autodesk even check these forums.

Simple quick coding fix.....

I don't know why this hasn't been done yet.  Total fail by Autodesk on this.

The "issue" can be resolved by using bim360/acc issues for communication.. or bimtrack.. or bimcollab

I think that setting to private by default is good brave ux design decision and it should be consistent on every project and hub.

The issue has been bothering quite a lot of people here.

I disagree with your statements on 3 points.
1. I don't exactly understand how this not being a problem for you contributes to this discussion.

2. Issues and Markups are different tools, using them interchangeably is something I would never advice to do. Conceptually speaking, a Markup is something that comes from an expert on a certain field, to a group of experts on other fields, so it's not like anyone should expect a discussion. Therefor as an expert, you should not hesitate to make your comments public. By..default, yes. Issues, that is a different story, that is a back and forth, hence the tracking. So, nothing to do, in my mind.

3. bimtrack, bimcollab? What about BIM360, which is what people come here to discuss?

Thank you

@EliRenzer  - UX design really?   If so many people have this issue including many that don't post to forums how is it good UX design?  We just need a setting to change it on a project if we want.   I have projects with 100+ users communication lines are between high level managers.....PMs at subs of subs don't always "communicate" well.

ADSK has done a bad job with the UX design of this platform is so many ways.

"Public by default" is the most common sense approach when you look at it in other aspects of how we all do business.

For example, when we write emails, we choose to make something confidential, not by default.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing this feedback. I'm a Product Manager at Autodesk looking into this change, and I have a clarifying question. If we were to offer a setting where you could choose which default you want, should it be a user or project-wide setting?

Thank you!

This should be a setting the project admin can change.  Should be by user and by project if possible.  We have varying levels of designers, commissioning agents, QA/QC.  We want designer roles to have this public by default however our safety and commissioning agents not really.

@alyssa.weis, In my opinion, this setting has to primarily be given on project-wide setting, however if can possibly be given at individual user or group would be awesome.

Should be user based in my opinion with it set to public by default.  User should choose to make it private.

Personally I think it should be both options, Project & Individually based if necessary.  It would be great to have this in place.

I agree with @clint.davisB6LG8! It should be a setting that can be set at the admin level. Primarily because this as a setting would be a companywide setting. Most users would not get this. So the admin level should make the setting either private or public by company policy.

Additionally to the users that think that this is an easy and quick fix. I program as well and can say that this would not be as simple as you think. Computers are literal very..... literal. So a quick fix in one spot can affect other parts of code unexpectedly. LOL I stopped thinking things are a quick fix. Because they generally end up being a big head ache in many unexpected ways. Just my thoughts not defending the time it takes just that fact that this very likely is not a simple fix. Thanks

Can you please provide a response on this. I first raised this issue over 4 years ago!

A large number of people are having the same problem. As a minimum please allow Account Admins / Project Admins to change a setting to force public by default.

When is this happening - markups are so clunky and having to change all markups to "Publish" is boring - easiest route is to bypass BIM360 altogether - download and use your preferred PDF editor - and then upload but surely this negates the reasons why we use BIM360 as a collaborative tool - maybe Autodesk should partner with Bluebeam Revu?

I agree with @stephen.millard - there are alternates to bypass BIM360, now Autodesk should fix issue or collaborate with third party to avoid losing grip on BIM360
