Linking models in other BIM360 Projects

There needs to be a way to link in Revit models located in different BIM360 projects.

Sometimes different projects are connected but need the same shared models for coordination, instead of duplicating in every project it would be good to be able to link in from different BIM360 projects with the right permissions.

We have clients with campus settings whether they are education, manufacturing, healthcare, and other types. The clients separate projects by initiative, funding, or contract. Which, with the current workflows where the design team is host for BIM360/ACC sites, means there are multiple cloud projects. In the end, the projects connect and overlap, sometimes in the same building. Being able to handle multi-project model coordination is critical, particularly when the projects are happening concurrently. Linking models across projects would be a real boon towards project success.

To really move from file-based architecture to cloud-based, linking across B360 or ACC projects is absolutely essential.

In our case, as a manufacturing company, we have an extensive library of what we call "dynamic record models".  To clarify, they are all Revit models.  We have the site models for each campus, each building has it's own set of models, and then each manufacturing "area" within the manufacturing buildings has a set of models.  As the "virtual factory" is a growing, living, breathing entity that is always changing, each record model may have several projects being executed against it at any given time.  It is not remotely practical to "check out" a model, and upload it to a cloud-based platform for project execution.  Each model needs to be accessible for editing by any project team (internal or external) at any time.

While we have migrated to B360, so far all we can do is upload the non-Revit documents for review cycles, exchange static copies of models, and leverage a few other time-savers.  To really realize the time and efficiency savings of the cloud-based workflows, there needs to some form of access between projects.

We have multiple contracts with many of our clients which span multiple buildings on large campuses.  We need the ability to link Revit workshared models across multiple BIM 360 projects to easily maintain coordinated sets.
