Desktop Connector support for Mac or Windows ARM

Desktop Connector support for Mac or Windows ARM

Would be great go get this supported natively on Mac OS or failing that get it working again under Windows ARM. Revit now runs pretty well under parallels on M1 Mac's but desktop connector no longer installs - fails on the filter easyflt.sys (something like that). Earlier versions used to install I'm sure but not the last few latest builds.

hello @gfwilliams and @cchollet

thank you for your answers

we use full collaboration files in the office too. Although desktop connector is a must have  the most important for me is to be able to open the revit files  ( the linked dwgs stay in the file anyway when missing ) and we only use those links at specific moments.

and I have another computer at the office in case I need DC. Let’s hope anyway it will be released soon

I prefer a Macbookpro because of the power management and the battery autonomy that is not yet reached with intel chips

Hi,

Same here, I have my old MBPro to work on files that require DC and then finish with the M2.
Autodesk, get this fixed soon !!!
Thanks to all.

Desktop connecter not working with arm chips, affects those of us on Surface windows pro x and those of us working with apple m1,2,3 chips through parallels. Please update to be compatible with the latest computers here.

It has been two and a half years since the request. We are about to run out of Intel-based MACs and now we do not know what to do.

I can accept that the Revit Development team at Autodesk doesn't want to make native apple software for Revit. Many of the community may not like this or agree with Autodesk's position on this, but it is what it is. Mr. Brumm has stated the company's stance in the a Revit Public Roadmap back in 2022.

https://portal.productboard.com/aec-bid/7-architecture-revit-public-roadmap/c/102-revit-for-mac?utm_...

Currently, we are able to run Revit in Parallels with Windows Pro ARM version. (I presume VMware although I haven't tried that). I feel that Autodesk has lived up to their statement above in allowing Revit to work on an ARM chipset through virtualization.

But the development of Revit to be allow to be used with Windows Pro Arm systems won't be complete until Autodesk Desktop Connecter can also work within this environment. Revit without Autodesk Desktop Connecter is not complete.

My posts here is not to argue for native apps on an apple computer. I'm simply requesting for Revit to be used with Desktop Connecter within a Windows Pro ARM environment.

Hi there,
I agree with this, but it has been taking too long for Autodesk to work this out and give us a fix to be able to use the software how is supposed to, complete.
We invest in this software and continue to recommend over other Bim software and have been able to work on Apple computers from long ago and want to continue to do so.

Hopefully Autodesk can fix this soon and continue with their support.

Thanks.

From Parallels:

Thank you for contacting Parallels Support.

We really appreciate your getting back to us.

Kindly accept our apologies for our late reply.

As per your issue description, it seems auto desktop connector is crashing on each installation of the virtual machine via Parallels on your Mac.

As per our local tests performed on latest auto desktop connector via this link: https://help.autodesk.com/view/CONNECT/ENU/?guid=GUID-03D59AAD-65B0-45E3-84F2-A12AAA5BB267

From screenshot 1, download part went fine on Windows virtual machine.

On screenshot nº 2 is the installation of auto desktop connector taking more time than required.

While continuing with the installation, we deactivated all antivirus and all VPN with firewall turned OFF.

If the installation fails again, please uninstall all antiviruses on your device.

On our side, we were able to complete its installation after soft reset of Windows from Actions menu and reboot of the Mac.

In case you find it hard to open the downloaded program, please reach out our team (with which we exchanged while testing locally) https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/product/desktop-connector

let me know if you get this to work on your ends. I can't replicate it.

@sean.williamsNKX78  Interesting. I'll test that over the weekend and see if I can reproduce it with the latest version of Parallels and the latest version of the ADC. My issue wasn't with installation, it was that the service never would start, but that should be easily reproducible.  More to follow...

@gfwilliams same issue I was having. It goes to 50% then crashes giving me the error 1067. I try to restart it and get the same result. I can't see what is causing the crash, network, hardware, vm. etc. I look forward to your update.

Same with the error 1067, the installation wont complete. Previously, if it was the win service that would not start.

Have tried insider edition to win 11, disabling firewall & AV, run as admin, etc.

was hopeful this new version would finally work.

Hi there,
I just downloaded this new version and got the same installation error...
I disabled everything and still got the error.
I will try again later and let you know.

Good luck

@cchollet I can't figure it out... I wonder if it is a network thing on AD side?

The 1067 may be resolved by a clean uninstall of DC.

https://help.autodesk.com/view/CONNECT/ENU/?guid=Uninstall_Desktop_Connector

The file monitoring service will still not start. The DC install is getting stuck & wont finish. I may have managed for it to install once since the first of the year, but the monitoring service would never start after the reboot & the software would close.

My latest support update from Parallels still points to the Autodesk vs ARM processor, & puts it back on Autodesk to support ARM, which is still the apparent stumbling block for this to work.
