Company placeholders for Project Templates

Company placeholders for Project Templates

When creating project templates / folders / permissions / etc. we generalize the Role and then assign members to that role yielding access to various discipline folders. That way, we can standardize access by Role. But when a project has multiple external stakeholders that are those disciplines, we don't have that same option.

I would like to keep the folder designations generic (architectural/structural/etc) and assign a placeholder company to that discipline. When we start a new project, all folders and permissions would be intact. If I could add a company to the company placeholder, they would inherit those predetermined permissions. In addition, any collab spaces would automatically be configured as well.

Thanks!

OK, I am mixing functionality; Docs with Collab Pro. Let me clarify... I can assign the general company (Arch Company, Civil, Survey, etc) to the docs folder. What I do not know until project creation, who the actual company is for each discipline. My request is to have some way to assign Tim's Architectural Studio to the "Arch Company" and inherit the permissions, etc of "Arch Company."

Hi @Kevin.Spear Are you referring to a team template approach incl. permission in Design Collaboration or just Docs?

Does this mean you want to manage permission by company in addition to roles?

Thinking about it from a purely a Docs perspective. I realized after the post, that I can assign a company to a folder with minimal permissions. Its that this part cant be "generalized" like how a Role works. I was thinking I could map the various companies to company placeholders at project creation to simplify the process. I guess that's no different than just adding the company to a folder post project creation.

I have a slightly different use case, but I think it's close enough to add it to your idea.

There are many folders which are only for our company staff (the ACC account), so I would like to be able to assign our Company Name to the permissions in the template.

But I can also see where you're coming from. It's almost as though a Company itself should be able to have a Role assigned to it.
