Add a communication panel to enable project stakeholders to easily communicate and discuss about the project. This is important to have all project communications in one place, manage these communications and avoid an overload of emails.
This would be an excellent way to chat with other members of the design team. We are structural engineers who currently use C4R and the communicator is a great way to discuss issues as we find them with the Architects etc, this speeds up our co-ordination on the projects.
Please add a communicator feature to BIM 360 Design or back into Revit!!
This could be as simple as a message board on the home page for the project or even a tab, that way you could leave comments, questions, remarks to the entire team or to any specific group. The end goal would be to return as much functionality to it as the BIM 360 Team or C4R communicator.
The idea of cloud worksharing and working in models simultaneously needs a communicator - it's the link that makes the workflow efficient and intelligent.
Not only should the old C4R communicator, with all it's features, be brought back - it should also be upgraded to a version "2.0" with new and additional features e.g. the ability to point out a location/make a "screenshot" of a location and make it as a "link" in the message, so the other team member can navigate to the "issue" quickly when receiving a question/comment.
This has been one of the largest complaints from our teams. Working as a coordinator it is nice to have discussions in each of the projects, they do not have to be issues, which is what the new BIM 360 Design is leaning towards. If they are unable to return the communicator, then have the project home page contain this information, including who is on and a message board system, this can be within teams and then general which allows users to discuss with the coordinators so that we are able to track this. it would also allow discussions across multiple teams within the project. This could then link several discussions to issues along with notes and comments.
During a BIM 360 "What's New & What's Next" webinar this morning, Autodesk confirmed they are working on Communicator with Sync-with-Central notifications, but no release date was given.
Instant messaging is not planned; Slack or Microsoft Teams would fill that role.
I am really glad to hear that, I just hope that it is not another idea they are proposing to see reaction and because of lack of response gets tossed to the curb. I know a lot of groups that when they join our teams feel it is just another instant messenger, where they begin to like it is the history of comments and communications that you were able to review on a project by project basis. Most of the instant messengers allow a constant stream but do not allow for comments to be associated with a specific project and once you change projects only those comments and communications for the current project are listed. This also goes for posting, you don't have to worry about other teams or messages getting seen on other projects.
We did not really use the chat function. But it is extremely useful to see who is currently active, see the history of sync-with-central, and active syncing.
Communicator was bringing "human" into Revit 2018.2 and earlier. It's necessary to know that some other people are working a the same time on the project or model. It helps to understand sync errors, and it's a efficient tool to communicate about problems and to solve them.
It must be a priority to bring it back!
At least, like it was. Quickly!
Ideally, with enhancements that bring some of the "online informations" of BIM360 Docs and Design to incite people to connect on the cloud.
There have been attempts to create IM tools by Autodesk in the past and they have had issues gaining traction. I would say please don't add yet another communication tool to the many applications I already have to run. Rather build integrations into Microsoft Teams and perhaps slack. That would be most beneficial
I am not seeing it in the new 2020 release yet. Very disappointed.... This was a great feature, as a BIM Coordinator it was one of the best tools, I would hope that they would be able to add this feature to BIM 360.
It is a HUGE pothole in BIM 360. Psychologically people experience more pain when they loos something they had rather then not getting an improvement. Communicator is definitely such thing. How Autodesk can make new BIM 360 product more inferior that the older A360 one. Communicator is an essential collaborative tool. We use it all the time. I suggest Autodesk to return this feature back to avoid more angry customers who are shifting to BIM 360 in their project delivery.
Using the latest and greatest in BIM Collaboration Technologies with BIM 360 Design in 'Blind Mode' is not making implementing to additional teams and members any easier. Using Skype group chats just like we thought up in 2006, before the Worksharing Monitor was released.
Please bring bac the ability for all project users to visibly see who's on first in the models.......
we paid for a new version (subscription, and its not cheap) and you take out something that is essential to day to day production? why? please let us know why?
