I know to some users this will seem like an obvious way to share a folder, but for some users they are still apprehensive of using technology in this way on construction projects, and therefore the easiest and simplest method should be available to them.
You can use the "share" option (either from the list / thumbnail view or in the viewer itself) to have the system send out an email with the embedded link. At this time, only users with access to the file/folder will be able to sign in and view the file/folder.
Thanks for your reply. I can see there's a share button in the menu that pops up an email form, and it sends a formatted email with a button that links to the file.
Say I'm writing an email to number of stakeholders regarding an issue, and I want to include links to multiple files that are uploaded to docs in different folders. Then I need hyper link in short url format to each file included in my email, not just one file. with this share feature, I can only share one file in one email.
Also, This formatted email with link button may be useful when every project member is familiar with docs, but in reality it is not the case. A lot of people skip standardized, formatted email sent out by Autodesk in their inbox, or do not bother to check the links within. We get dozens, hundreds of email everyday.
I do hope share button feature similar to other cloud storage services is added soon to docs.
@chris_kim thank you for taking the time to explain this to Autodesk. BIM 360 Team has the feature and the new version BIM 360 Document Management went backwards. When clicking on "Share" it neeeeeeeds to have the url!
@joan_allen Thank you for the quick response. I do appreciate that BIM 360 Document Mangement is so nimble and updates can be implemented quickly. I have some forum posts and Ideas that I have yet to receive a response on. They are in regard to issues that Revit MEP users have been waiting close to 10 years to be resolved.
We need to share a published PDF folder where we are uploading finished drawings to with a Building Control Inspector. This would be a safe way to share current information with him for approval, rather than sending files via a wE Transfer platform
i have set Inspector up with View only rights. Is this the best way to do it
Has this been added yet? I am trying to send someone a copy of our shared model but all they can see is the below image. I do not want to give them permission to the shared folder because that would give them access to every shared model. How can I send them a link to a single model without giving access to everything?
An acceptable answer will not contain any sort of saving a detached copy. If I have to do this then BIM360 has failed.
