BIM 360 Docs - Make folders above subfolder visible

BIM 360 Docs - Make folders above subfolder visible

If you only have permission in a subfolder but not in the folders above, you now will only see the subfolder name.

This is problematic, you should always see the complete structure.

For example: Project admin created following folder structure:

WIP

    Archi

    Struct

    MEP

Shared

   Archi

   Struct

   MEP

He then changes the permissions for the 2 Archi subfolders to give access to the architectural designer.

Result: the architectural designer will see the following folder structure:

Archi

Archi

This means that he will not know which folder is meant for what.

Important is that he should see also the folders above. If he does not have permissions in these folders, he should only see the folder entry without seeing the contents.

The only workaround now is to include in the subfolder name a hint to refer to the main folder name.

But what to do if the subfolder is 5 levels deep: add 5 hints to refer to each upper level folder ????

Yes, this has been a huge issue from the start.

In addition to your example, when you are on the phone with someone and discussing project details and they have a different folder structure, it can be difficult to ensure you are talking about the same data if the folder structure is not the same.

This is really an issue, especially for our clients. Needs to be solved!

Very Problematic, especially combined with the functionality differences between Plans (Drawings and Models) and Project Documentation (Everything Else).

Hello Group, if we look at it from a mobil perspectiv we do not want the user to see the whole file path if the person don't have access, but based on feedback from the group it seems to be a need in some cases. Can this function be activated by the user, se whole file path on/off. In some cases seeing the whole file path can complicate more than be of use.

Thank you for the comments. This one is in our near term roadmap. And this will change Web UI, Mobile won't be impacted.

Hi @penny_yu is there any update to when this will be released, will we see it before the end of this year or Q1 next year?

Autodesk

@Trent_Field  It should be available now. Please ask your admin to check the "advanced setting" page, there is a toggle. This will show the full path to all project members, so please make sure this is OK before turning it on.

Please let me know if you have other questions, thanks!

Hi @penny_yu does this only work within the bim 360 project site and not within Revit? We need it within Revit for it to work effectively.

@Trent_Field Sorry for the confusion, but, yes, this post concerns to Docs Web UI only.

@penny_yu @joan_allen is there any future considerations to having this workflow within Revit as well as this is one of the main driving factors behind our companies current folder structure, having it within BIM 360 is great but 80% of the time our users are working in Revit.

Thanks @penny_yu  and @joan_allen for the addition to the web UI, but is it possible to have the same as well in the Desktop Connector?

@joan_allen is this also within Revit and the desktop connector or just in BIM 360 Docs? We need to have this implemented in the software as well as the BIM 360 site.

I am refreshing this post, is any update on showing parent folders "WIP"& "SAHERD" on Revit's home page Autodesk Docs? we need users to see the full path to know which Revit models they are working on.

Thanks in advance.
