Hi there!

Documents can be shared with non-project members of the BIM 360 Docs.

Similar to a public link where users do not have to log into the platform.

As an example a lot of governments orgs that do not want to have to log into receive documents.

This governments need the documents as a progress update only. They are not collaborators.

For us, this is an important point for the use of BIM360 in sales with customers and or with suppliers. In the A360 environment there are also such functions (by link and the duration specify how long the file should be available there). Maybe you could also connect a function in parallel with WeTransfer or other services.

It happens regularly that customers and suppliers do not (yet) want to register on the BIM platform.

We regularly need to share files with people that don't have (and don't want) a separate log-in, including agencies, owners and vendors.  Document sets are too large to be emailed.  When we used A360 we would upload files there and share a link, which allowed us to keep and manage the documents in one location.  In BIM360 we don't have that option, and are forced to upload the documents to other platforms (Drop Box, OneDrive, etc.).  This makes it harder to mange documents, and more difficult for everyone on the internal team to know what has been shared and with whom.

None of the BIM 360 suites allows you to share outside of members that are on the project.  So even sharing the final plans with outside entities is impossible.  I can understand keeping control of the documents to a degree on the design side.  Although many of our fabricators are not using BIM 360 and getting documentation and files to them has us reverting to (The Box) for larger files and emailing for the very small ones.  

If AutoDesk is trying to replace or gain business away from companies and sites like The Box then they will need to allow this sort of storage and transfer.  Our company would love to switch to one platform for all of our design/build documentation.

Hello Autodesk and fellow BIM360 knowledge net, 

I believe this is such an important feature that I am compelled to play as a broken record with a stress that we are all heard and that this feature is added ASAP. It is disappointing that this discussion has been going on for 2 years now and still no change in NewGen. I believe the market has responded quite strongly concerning this, as such I strongly wish that with the official release of the Cost Management module in April the ability to share bid packages with external non-license users is available.

As for our firm, this has proven to be a critical factor that has been affecting our clients' decision to go with other alternatives vs. BIM360.

This item should be top priority. In order for docs to truly replace another storage platform for models and project files we need to be able to share files to external users with just a link. Project teams can be massive and having the ability to quickly send a file without having to have new users create an account, login, find the file and then get to the information they need is absolutely necessary.

Bizarre, to me, that I have to publish BIM 360 Docs/Design projects back to BIM 360 Team just because Docs lacks a simple share function. Would be good to see some status feedback from the product team on an issue which has been raised multiple times and was once mentioned as being on the roadmap (Back in 2018-04).

I was at the AUlondon last week and the guys from Autodesk mentioned this would happen immediately. Any specific date? My company would need this feature in order to use BIM 360 Docs.

 By enabling this feature, Autodesk can also use it as an advertising tool for all users across all stakeholders.

Can we get any update on this @joan_allen (anyone?) our migration from BIM 360 Team is stalled until some sort of view only share is sorted. If not on the radar will have commission a custom built viewer which is insanely hard to justify to replace legacy functionality Autodesk choose not to provide.

This is a CRUCIAL feature for B360 docs. I can't believe that it is not implemented yet. 

We have created a great cloud-based tool with all necessary plans, documents and files to get to know that we can't share it with anybody.

This would effectively replace the need for any form of Tender module. Many competing CDE platforms provide excellent functionality for tendering Sub-Contract works.

Would love to see this as a development, would let us eliminate a number of other workstreams / platforms while bidding for projects, and significantly increase  user uptake.
