It would be very helpful to use symbolic links (similar to Windows shortcut) within ACC Docs.
Very often, the same document is common to several building phases and we would like to get it in every related subfolder of each phase. The goal is to have a standardized way of managing the different documents. We cannot always put them in a COMMON folder because it might happen that the document concerns only some of the phases. Sometimes, it also happens that the document is only related to one particular phase.
Let's take an example :
The engineer has released 4 documents :
In ACC Docs, we've got the following files structures and what we would need :
- building 1
- building 2
- building 3
- building 4
- building 5
- building 6
- building 7
We might have organized the folder structure such as
- common
- phase 1
- phase 2
- phase 3
However, we don't know from the start how will be the the different phases but we must keep the same files structure through the different projects (project template, automation, setup...) . At the end, we also must get the indivudual As-built data from each building. This example is only an illustration but there are lots of other use cases with similar needs.
Another approach would be not to work anymore with folder structure but with metadata. In this case, we might associate :
the TAGs building 1, building 2 and building 3 to the document #1
the TAGs building 4, building 5 and building 6 to the document #2
the TAGs building 7 to document #3
the TAGs building 1 => building 7 to the document #4
Unfortunately, as for now there is noway to use several tags at the same time with a file attribute.
