can't stop a render sequence

Hi Im using maya 2023.    In trying to render out a scene   which of course I start to see mistakes after a few mins  Its impossible to cancel the render.   while I love the new crash saving an updated state of the file, not being able to cancel rendering with out crashing maya is a bit of an issue

I press escape  it just goes to the next frame and just renders a bit of that then the next  and so on I cant wait for it to stop without waiting an hour is this a bug?, arnold, maya or bifrost issue?. my scene has two bifrost sims running from cached files. on a mac studio   any ideas ?

Stopping the render sequence option does not seem to be possible without killing the whole Maya session, even on the most basic scenes. Just wanted to rule-out the use of the Bifrost cache situation and the use of the Mac.

Workstation - Maya 2023, Windows 10, Nvidia 1080ti, 128gigs Ram, Dual Xeon E5-2690

Has no one else had this problem? It certainly haunts me!

hi well I tried with just a sphere and a light skydome with no texture and the same thing happens   arnold stops rendering but maya just keeps running thru the frames and the only way to stop it is to force quit maya

I should try and delete my prefs as well I suppose

Hello,

Just curious but how are you starting the render, and are you doing it to evaluate your scene for errors?

--

Option 1:

Playblast your animation.

This will allow to evaluate the scene for errors before rendering.

a.) Right-click (Control-click Mac) the TIMELINE and open Playblast options window.

b.) Scroll down and check mark SAVE TO FILE, choose where you want to save it.

Right-click TimelineRight-click Timeline

Of course there are so many other options to Playblast, link below.

Playblast an Animation: link for more information and options.

Option 2:

If you need a beauty render to see if everything is looking the way you want it.

Open Arnold RenderViewOpen Arnold RenderView

Just my thoughts on how to avoid going forward with a full blown render (and then needing to stop it).

Good luck

Hi thanks for replying   no this is an arnold problem I think  definitely not Bifrost - I just start a render with the render sequence.  but if I stop it - it stops rendering but carries on going through the the remaining frames of the sequence slowly and maya crashes

Is this with MtoA 5.1.1.1 ?

Because that update has a fix for this:
