Autodesk Desktop App will not work for more than a day

I have to remove and reinstall the Autodesk desktop app every single day. I have followed the directions to remove and reinstall the Desktop app many times and it will work for a while then die.  Friday I even restarted to see if that killed it and it was fine. This morning the app is blank again. I have been trying to get users here to keep this app running so we can get updates but I have the same issue on every machine.

I give up on keeping this thing running. It is useless.

OK, I just went through the process or removing and reinstalling the Desktop app. It worked until I rebooted. WTH do I have to do to make this thing work the way it is meant to? I have tried for over a year in this office to keep the app working with no results. These are the instructions I have been using. Is there another solution that actually works beyond the next reboot?

What version AutoCAD/ARCH are you running?
Your OS?
Why do you need ADA exactly? You can get updates (which are few and far between in a year for your variant) from your Autodesk Account page's dedicated Updates link.

You can always grab the current version of ADA here https://www.autodesk.com/desktop-app

Uninstall it and forget about it. Read this for more info.

You can get all the downloads and updates at https://manage.autodesk.com

I thought the point of the app was to keep programs updated. I am in an office with 6 users and limited IT. I am trying to be the CAD manager. I am just now getting them to upgrade from ACA 2017 to ACA 2020. All windows 10. Between the 6 users each install had different levels of upgrades and some had never been patched. I have tried informing everyone of updates to try to keep everyone using updated software but none are ever updated. I thought the app would help with keeping things updated instead of me trying to find the time to run updates after hours. The other users are not going to go to manage to download their own updates, hell they wont even run the ones I email them about.

A working App would be much more useful to me than telling everyone to fend for themselves. Why doesn't it work?

Is this a common strategy, to allow end users to install (or not install) updates as they see fit? Most firms want to analyze and test updates because it is not uncommon for an update to break something that was working.

We have over 500 Autodesk users and we (the CAD Management/IT role) decide when updates are allowed to be installed.

Having said that, I don't know why the DA isn't working for you. You'll need to open a support request with Autodesk. These forums are peer-to-peer support, we are just users like you.

>>>...I thought the point of the app was to keep programs updated...<<<
Through the first summer/fall of your software it is relevant, yes. Then why do you still need it?

>>>... The other users are not going to go to manage to download their own updates...<<<
That looks like a CAD MAnagement missed opportunity to lead and manage users. Is that not your role? Perhaps it should be someone's at your office.

>>>...instead of me trying to find the time to run updates after hours...<<<
Aren't you doing just that trying to get ADA to work? hours and hours of trying to get it to work.

ADA is troublesome, always has been, still is: enjoy trying to bug fix it for Autodesk, nothing like a field beta testing for free to take you away from your work.

Enjoy.

could you please try this?

Exit Autodesk desktop app(from system tray menu)
Stop AdAppMgr Service(task manager)
%Programdata% > Autodesk > Delete the “SDS” folder
Restart Autodesk desktop app.

i would like to know more about the issue. could you please send me the log files?

Yes, I am trying to offer some form of CAD management here but this is an office that would be happy still using their old copy of AutoCAD 13. We are very busy and it has taken me a few months just to find the time to get ACA and Revit installed for everyone. Opening the app and clicking on updates is just easier. We are given tools to help with tasks like this and it is very frustrating when they don't work. I know the app has had issues but it has always worked in the past after repairing it.

@srinivasarao.potla I deleted the SDS folder and added the lines to the ini file. I rebooted and this time the App came back just fine this time. Yesterday I reinstalled it 4 times and it would not start up again after a reboot.

I have included the log file from after the reboot.

Thanks for your assistance

Welcome to the CAD Management world: its never easy, and your story is about as common as it gets, we all go through it. Most of us avoid additional headaches by never letting users add or remove any updates, you'll learn that trick soon enough sadly, we all did.

Enjoy bug-fixing ADA for Autodesk 🙂
