Poor Download Speeds and Updates Not Installing

Anonymous
Not applicable

Whenever I use the Autodesk Desktop Application or Download Manager to download or update a software like Maya, the download speeds are painfully slow, and the Autodesk Desktop App doesn't use my full internet speed for some reason. I have a 50Mbps connection, but in task manager, it shows the app uses only about 15Mbps.

The download speeds when downloading with the desktop app lingers around 300KBps to about 600KBps, whereas with browser download, I get about 4 MBps for the same package.

Also, after downloading an update after sitting for hours with the Desktop App, the update never installs and always gets stuck in midway. The Autodesk Desktop App is very useless and poor in my experience. Such a service is not expected from a company like Autodesk. Please fix this.

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for using Autodesk forum. Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience you had while using ADA.

Can you try below steps:

        1. Exit Autodesk desktop app(from system tray menu)
        2. Stop AdAppMgr Service(task manager)
        3. Go to  -> %Programdata% > Autodesk > Delete the “SDS” folder
        4. Restart Autodesk desktop app and try to download and install the product.

Please find the attachment for log file instructions. Please send us the logs from the below locations so that we can investigate:

1.  %programdata%\Autodesk\sds\log

2. %localappdata%\Autodesk\.AdskAppManager

Regards,

Manu

Hi,

I'm having the same issue, have done since the original download of all my autodesk programs. I tried deleting the SDS folder but it didn't fix it. My usual speeds are 60Mbps however autodesk never gets to 2Mbps. I don't have the log file in local appdata, and I have hidden files enabled. I hope the log file from the SDS folder will make do.

Thanks,

Emily

Edit: I followed the uninstall instructions from here: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/search-result/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Install-Autodesk-Desktop...

It seems to be installing now, but extremely slowly and failed the first time. I will update if it works.

Hi @Anonymous

Can you provide the screenshot of ADA version you are having installed on your machine. The latest version should be 7.0.12.84. If you do not have this version, please install it.

If you already have this latest version installed then please try below steps:

        1. Exit Autodesk desktop app(from system tray menu)
        2. Stop AdAppMgr Service(task manager)
        3. Go to  -> %Programdata% > Autodesk > Delete the “SDS” folder
        4. Restart Autodesk desktop app and try to download and install the product.

Please find the attachment for log file instructions. Provide the logs from the below locations so that we can investigate:

1.  %programdata%\Autodesk\sds\log

2. %localappdata%\Autodesk\.AdskAppManager

Regards,

Manu

I'm experiencing this same issue with every and any autodesk application - be it worksharing over VPN, downloading updates via Autodesk App, etc. All Adesk apps behave the exact same way. I have a confirmed 300-500mbps down speed 5G connection which is solid yet Revit and the updater will only ever max at around 10mbps.

Please dont respond with multiple requests for software versions etc. Everything is updated to latest as supplied by subscription. Please stop avoiding this glaring issue and resolve it as its clear every single user is affected and a singular troubleshoot of ADA versions is not the correct approach. Adesk Development team needs to get on to this right away as we are all increasingly working remotely.
