Desktop App - allow 3rd parties in?

@natasha.l - I wonder if we could get a response to this article, which points us to this Autodesk KB article, which says we have to punch all of these holes in our corporate firewall to allow the Desktop App to work?

I suppose there is some fine print that says we agree to some sort of privacy agreement with all of these 3rd party companies?

Thanks for any light you guys can shed on this.

Hello @rkmcswain,

I understand, I looked into this & hopes this helps answer your questions or provide the material you are looking for. The same privacy statement applies to the Autodesk Desktop app as with the License Agreement you receive during the installation of your Autodesk software that you either "Reject" or "Agree". The Autodesk Desktop app also has a direct link to the privacy statement.

No, this does not answer the question. Nothing in there says why we have to open up holes in our firewall to non-Autodesk companies.

Thanks.

Hi,

To Install or use ADA you do not need any firewall exception, but when you try to install a product for the first time in a machine it will download and install Autodesk Download Manager, the download manager use Akamai Net session interface client (For installation through ADA, Install Now and Download Now Methods), this is very helpful in downloading large installation packages from Akamai servers, it help in improving the download speed and error correction dramatically over standard direct browser download. Before running the net session it prompts user a dialog and ask for user permission to set an exception (whitelist) in the firewall or not. If user agrees then the download of packages are done with help of Akamai net session client (quickest way to download Autodesk products).

I hope this helps.

Thanks

Nitya
